Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined Rs 24 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during their match against Gujarat Titans on April 9 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This is RR’s second slow over rate offence of the season.
Since this was a repeat offence, the IPL also fined the other players in the playing XI – including the Impact Player – Rs 6 lakh each or 25% of their match fee, whichever is less.
This match was only Samson’s second game as the full-time captain this season. In the first three matches, he played only as a batter while Riyan Parag led the team. Parag was also fined earlier for a slow over rate in RR’s match against Chennai Super Kings.
This fine falls under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with slow over-rate offences.
After a heavy 58-run loss to Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals now have just 2 wins and 3 losses from their first 5 games, putting them in 7th place on the points table.
Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians)
Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals)
Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants)
Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bengaluru)
Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals)
RR will now look to bounce back in their upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 13.
