A disturbing incident involving the alleged harassment of a minor girl in Bihar’s Samastipur has come to light after a video of the episode surfaced on social media. The footage reportedly shows a group of youths surrounding the girl and allegedly misbehaving with her after the minor boy accompanying her was beaten and forced to leave. Police have arrested four people and launched an investigation into the circumstances captured in the video.
The Jamui incident has been repeated in Samastipur, Bihar. The alleged incident took place near the embankment bypass road in Jagatsinghpur village, within the jurisdiction of Karpurigram police station in Samastipur. The matter came to police attention after a video recorded at the spot was widely circulated on social media.
According to the information available, a minor boy and girl had reached the embankment on a motorcycle and were speaking to each other when a group of youths allegedly confronted them. The boy was reportedly assaulted by the group and subsequently fled from the location.
The girl was then allegedly surrounded by the youths and subjected to inappropriate behaviour and abusive remarks. The video purportedly shows her objecting repeatedly to their conduct. She was also allegedly questioned several times about her address.
When the girl reportedly said she would call her brother, the youths allegedly made abusive comments about him as well. One person in the group is purportedly seen touching the girl inappropriately in the video.
The footage has become a key part of the police inquiry. However, officials are expected to establish the complete circumstances of the incident, verify the authenticity and context of the video and determine the individual role of each person shown in it.
Following the circulation of the footage, Samastipur police took cognisance of the matter and directed the concerned police station to register an FIR. Police teams subsequently worked to identify those allegedly involved.
Four people have so far been arrested. They have been identified as Rahul Kumar, 19, Awadhesh Paswan, 46, Vikas Sharma, 32, and Rambabu Sahni, 38. The arrested persons are being questioned as part of the investigation.
Samastipur Superintendent of Police Arvind Pratap Singh said police had taken cognisance of the viral video and instructed the local police station to initiate legal proceedings. Authorities have stated that further action will follow based on the findings of the investigation.
The Samastipur case comes shortly after a separate alleged harassment incident involving minors in Jamui attracted considerable attention. Police action in that case followed the circulation of a video and allegations that several people were involved.
The two incidents have renewed discussion around the conduct of groups confronting young people in public places and the issue of so-called moral policing. In the Samastipur case, however, the precise sequence of events, the allegations against individual suspects and the circumstances surrounding the recording and circulation of the video remain matters for the ongoing police investigation.
