The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday stepped up its political offensive against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), staging a protest outside the party’s office in New Delhi over allegations of multiple examination paper leaks in Punjab. The demonstration, which led to heavy police deployment in the area, saw BJP leaders demanding a comprehensive investigation into the alleged irregularities and accountability from the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government.
The protest has placed the AAP in a politically challenging position, coming at a time when the party had recently supported student protests in Delhi over allegations of irregularities in national-level examinations. The BJP highlighted the contrast, accusing the AAP of adopting a double standard by criticising the Centre over alleged examination leaks while allegedly failing to ensure transparency and fairness in Punjab’s examination system.
Leading the protest, BJP workers and senior leaders accused the Punjab government of jeopardising the future of thousands of students by allowing repeated lapses in the conduct of recruitment and academic examinations. They alleged that several examinations held during the AAP government’s tenure had faced questions over credibility and security, causing distress among aspirants who rely on these tests for employment and educational opportunities.
Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra, along with party MPs and other senior leaders, participated in the demonstration and demanded an impartial probe into the allegations. BJP supporters raised slogans against the Punjab government, calling for strict action against those responsible for compromising the examination process.
The BJP alleged that repeated incidents of paper leaks had created uncertainty among students and damaged public confidence in the examination system. The party argued that recruitment examinations are directly linked to the aspirations of young people and any compromise in their integrity affects not only individual candidates but also the credibility of government institutions.
The controversy has provided the BJP with an opportunity to target the AAP on the issue of governance and administrative accountability. The party has accused the Bhagwant Mann government of failing to protect the interests of students and demanded that those involved in alleged irregularities face stringent action.
