Punjab Law College Shooting: Student Killed in Classroom, Accused Dies After Turning Gun on Himself

In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves across Punjab, a female college student was shot dead at point-blank range inside her classroom at Mai Bhago Law College in Tarn Taran district on Monday morning. The accused, a fellow student, later turned the gun on himself and died, police said. The entire episode was captured on CCTV, leaving students and faculty traumatised.

The incident occurred around 9.16 am, just as classes were about to begin. The victim has been identified as Sandeep Kaur, a resident of Naushehra Pannuan village in Tarn Taran, while the accused has been identified as Prince Raj, a resident of Mallian village. Both were students of the same law college.

According to the CCTV footage, Prince Raj entered the classroom carrying a bag on his back and briefly interacted with Sandeep Kaur and another female classmate. The three then moved to seats at the back of the classroom and continued talking. Moments later, Prince Raj suddenly stood up, opened his bag, and took out a firearm. Turning towards Sandeep Kaur, he shot her at point-blank range.

Sandeep Kaur collapsed instantly, while the other student recoiled in shock. The footage then shows Prince Raj placing the gun to his own temple and firing. He fell to the ground immediately after. Panic ensued as students screamed and rushed out of the classroom following the gunshots.

A senior police official said Sandeep Kaur died on the spot. Prince Raj also succumbed to his injuries shortly after the shooting. The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while police have secured the crime scene and seized the weapon.

“The motive behind the shooting is not yet clear. We are examining CCTV footage and questioning students and staff to establish the sequence of events and the reason behind the act,” the official said.

The incident has raised serious concerns about campus safety and the easy availability of firearms. Authorities have assured strict action and a thorough investigation as the college community struggles to come to terms with the brutal violence witnessed inside what should have been a place of learning.
