Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tribute to the timeless teachings of India’s Gurus and the valiant sacrifices of the Sahibzadas, emphasizing their foundational role in shaping the vastness of Indian democracy. Addressing the Veer Baal Diwas celebrations at Bharat Mandapam, he underscored how these principles resonate with the core values enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
The Prime Minister remarked that the Guru tradition has always inspired people to view everyone with equal respect, a sentiment mirrored in the Constitution's guiding principles. Drawing parallels between the sacrifices of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh—young sons of Guru Gobind Singh—and the ideals of unity and integrity, Mr. Modi said their legacy serves as a beacon for unwavering commitment to the nation.
“The Constitution teaches us the same principle of upholding the sovereignty and integrity of India as paramount,” Mr. Modi stated. He further highlighted that the lives of the Sahibzadas are a reminder that no challenge or adversity is greater than the interests of the nation.
Mr. Modi also underscored the pivotal role of India’s youth in the country's progress. “From the freedom struggle to the mass movements of the 21st century, the youth of India have been at the forefront of every revolution,” he said. The Prime Minister urged the younger generation to draw inspiration from history, emphasizing their role in building a strong and united India.
The concept of Veer Baal Diwas was introduced in 2022 by Prime Minister Modi to commemorate the sacrifices of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, who stood firm in their pursuit of justice despite their tender age. Observed on December 26, the day aims to inspire young minds, foster creativity, and encourage contributions toward the vision of a developed India, or Viksit Bharat.
This year’s event was attended by approximately 3,500 children, including recipients of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, alongside several dignitaries.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Modi also launched the Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan, a nationwide initiative aimed at improving nutritional outcomes. The program seeks to strengthen nutrition-related services through community participation and the active engagement of Gram Panchayats.
The initiative aligns with the broader goal of ensuring holistic development and well-being, particularly in rural areas. “A healthy nation begins with well-nourished children,” Mr. Modi said, reiterating his commitment to addressing malnutrition.
As the nation observed Veer Baal Diwas, the Prime Minister’s message was clear: the teachings of the Gurus and the courage of the Sahibzadas are invaluable pillars of India’s cultural and democratic ethos. Their stories of resilience and sacrifice continue to inspire generations, urging citizens to prioritize national unity and integrity above all else.
The event not only commemorated historical sacrifices but also laid the groundwork for empowering the youth and ensuring a brighter future for India.
