In a significant prelude to the upcoming India AI Impact Summit 2026, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today hosted an intimate and dynamic roundtable discussion with twelve of India’s most promising AI start-ups at his residence. These innovators, selected for the prestigious ‘AI for ALL: Global Impact Challenge’, presented their groundbreaking work, offering a glimpse into the nation’s vibrant AI frontier.
The select start-ups represent the diverse and ambitious spectrum of Indian AI innovation. Their projects span Indian language foundation models aimed at breaking digital language barriers, generative AI for 3D content in e-commerce and marketing, advanced engineering simulations, and transformative applications in healthcare diagnostics and medical research. This curated gathering underscored the government’s focused approach to nurturing homegrown, problem-solving AI talent.
Addressing the founders, Prime Minister Modi positioned artificial intelligence as a pivotal force for societal transformation. He emphasised that the upcoming India AI Impact Summit will be a cornerstone event, asserting India’s major role in shaping the global technology discourse.
"Startups and AI entrepreneurs are the co-architects of India’s future," the Prime Minister stated, highlighting the country's unique dual capacity for grassroots innovation and large-scale implementation. He articulated a clear vision for ‘Made in India, Made for the World’ AI, urging the ecosystem to develop a unique AI model that reflects this ethos.
Central to his address was the imperative of trust and ethics. Noting the world's growing trust in India’s tech capabilities, PM Modi stressed that Indian AI models must be built on unwavering principles of ethics, lack of bias, transparency, and data privacy. He framed this not as a constraint, but as a strategic advantage and a global responsibility.
The Prime Minister called upon start-ups to aim for global leadership emanating from India. He identified key areas where India can lead the world: affordable AI, inclusive AI, and frugal innovation. By democratising access to AI solutions, India can address not only its own challenges but also those of the Global South and beyond.
Further, he advocated for AI models that are distinctly Indian, promoting local content, indigenous knowledge systems, and regional languages. This focus on cultural and linguistic context, he suggested, is what will make Indian AI truly unique and globally resonant.
The AI entrepreneurs expressed strong appreciation for the government’s proactive commitment to building a world-class AI ecosystem. They highlighted the rapid growth and vast potential of the sector in India, fuelled by a deep talent pool, increasing digital infrastructure, and supportive policy initiatives.
The start-up leaders noted that India now offers a robust and enabling environment for AI development, which has firmly placed the country on the global AI map. The roundtable was seen as a powerful signal of the highest level of political will and partnership with the innovation community.
