On Thursday, 26 February, the Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, attended the Parichay Sammelan programme at Manipal Tata Medical College in Jamshedpur, marking a significant and memorable occasion for students, faculty members, and the medical fraternity. The visit reflected the growing importance of medical education and youth engagement in nation-building.
The President was accompanied by the Governor of Jharkhand, Santosh Gangwar, State Health Minister Irfan Ansari, the Vice Chancellor of the college, and senior representatives including Tata Steel Vice President D. B. Sundararaman. Faculty members, management staff, and a large number of students were also present to welcome the distinguished guest.
Upon her arrival at the Manipal campus, President Murmu was warmly received by the Governor and the State Health Minister. She later interacted with faculty members and students and posed for photographs, creating moments of pride and inspiration for the academic community.
In a symbolic gesture promoting environmental responsibility, the President planted a sapling within the college premises, delivering a strong message on environmental conservation and sustainable living. To commemorate the historic visit, the college management announced the development of the “Droupadi Murmu Sports and Food Campus,” aimed at enhancing student facilities and campus life.
During the main programme, President Murmu engaged in an interactive session with students. A student from Odisha shared her personal struggles and academic journey at the medical college, while another student from Haryana spoke about her aspirations and experiences. Responding to their stories, the President emphasized that students should not limit themselves to merely becoming doctors. She encouraged them to dedicate their knowledge and energy to the service of humanity, reminding them that compassion and commitment are as important as professional excellence.
In her address, she praised the institution for its contribution to medical education and expressed confidence in the bright future of Manipal Tata Medical College and its students.
The visit became especially memorable when the President stepped beyond strict security protocols to connect directly with the public. After attending a foundation ceremony at the Shri Jagannath Spiritual and Cultural Charitable Centre on Marine Drive in Kadma, she arrived at the medical college in Baridih. As her convoy exited the campus following the programme, President Murmu noticed a large crowd of women and children standing along the roadside waving the national flag. Moved by their enthusiasm, she unexpectedly stopped her vehicle and greeted the people, creating an emotional and unforgettable moment for residents.
The President’s visit not only strengthened the bond between leadership and youth but also highlighted the values of service, humility, and public connection—qualities that continue to inspire students and citizens alike.
