President Droupadi Murmu on Friday lauded India's grassroots innovators for developing practical solutions to local challenges, saying their creativity and commitment have the potential to transform the country into a global leader in grassroots innovation. Addressing a gathering of innovators associated with the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, the President said that innovation rooted in local experience and social responsibility would play a crucial role in achieving the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
A group of grassroots innovators from the Atal Innovation Mission called on the President, who also visited an exhibition showcasing their inventions. During the visit, she interacted with the innovators and observed a wide range of innovations aimed at addressing everyday challenges across sectors.
Highlighting India's immense innovation potential, President Murmu said the country's diversity, scale, and entrepreneurial spirit provide a strong foundation for becoming a global powerhouse in grassroots innovation. She noted that grassroots innovations are uniquely positioned to meet society's needs because they combine local knowledge, scientific thinking, creativity, and a deep sense of social responsibility.
The President expressed satisfaction that innovators from different parts of the country are creating solutions for local issues that have broader national significance. She pointed out that the exhibition reflected innovations across diverse fields, including converting waste into wealth, energy conservation, environmental protection, agriculture, improving convenience for women and persons with disabilities, and preserving traditional art and culture.
Emphasising that innovative ideas alone are not sufficient to bring about meaningful societal change, President Murmu said innovators require a supportive ecosystem that nurtures talent and provides access to technical guidance, resources, and platforms. In this context, she praised the role of Atal Community Innovation Centres in mentoring grassroots innovators, offering technical support, and helping transform innovative ideas into sustainable enterprises capable of generating long-term social and economic impact.
The President observed that India's aspiration of becoming a developed nation can only be realised when every citizen adopts an innovation-oriented mindset to solve problems. She noted with satisfaction that institutions and individuals across the country are increasingly working together with a shared objective, leading to the emergence of a stronger culture of innovation. According to her, the benefits of these collective efforts will eventually reach a wider section of society and contribute to inclusive national development.
Acknowledging the determination of grassroots innovators, President Murmu remarked that many of them continued their work despite facing limited resources, uncertainty, and repeated challenges. She appreciated their unwavering belief in the power of innovation to improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities.
Encouraging the innovators to continue their journey, the President urged them to constantly refine their technologies, collaborate with research institutions, industries, and fellow innovators, and work towards scaling up their innovations for wider adoption. She said such collaborations would not only strengthen their innovations but also help maximise their impact across the country.
The interaction underscored the growing importance of grassroots innovation in India's development agenda, with the Atal Innovation Mission continuing to provide a platform for innovators to convert local solutions into scalable, sustainable, and impactful enterprises that contribute to nation-building.
