President Droupadi Murmu Applauds 9 Women Cadets at IMA Passing Out Parade, Terms It a Milestone in India’s Women-Led Development Journey

The Indian Army on Saturday welcomed 481 new young officers as the 158th Passing Out Parade (POP) was conducted with grandeur at the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The ceremony marked the successful completion of rigorous military training by the Gentleman Cadets, who displayed exceptional discipline, dedication, and military spirit during the parade.

Steeped in rich military traditions and a glorious legacy, the Passing Out Parade reflected a deep sense of patriotism and commitment to national service. Against the backdrop of the historic Chetwode Building, a total of 515 Gentleman and Women Cadets crossed the revered “Antim Pag” (Final Step), symbolizing their transition into commissioned officers of the Army.

Among the newly commissioned officers were 34 cadets from friendly foreign nations, who completed their training at the Academy and will now join the armed forces of their respective countries, further strengthening India’s longstanding military ties with partner nations.

This year’s Passing Out Parade marked a historic milestone for the Indian Military Academy as nine women cadets graduated alongside their male counterparts for the first time in the institution’s history. The occasion highlighted the growing role of women in the armed forces and reflected the nation’s commitment to gender inclusion in military leadership.

President Droupadi Murmu reviewed the parade as the Reviewing Officer and congratulated the newly commissioned officers on successfully completing their training. Addressing the cadets, the President described the Indian Military Academy as a symbol of honour, courage, and selfless service to the nation.

She termed the passing out of women cadets a significant chapter in the Academy’s history and an inspiring step towards women-led development in the country. President Murmu urged the young officers to remain lifelong learners, take courageous decisions, and uphold ethical leadership while responding to emerging and evolving security challenges.

“The nation looks up to its armed forces with immense pride and trust,” she said, emphasizing the importance of integrity, professionalism, and dedication in military service.

During the ceremony, Officer Cadet Vishal Kumar emerged as the top performer, receiving the prestigious Sword of Honour for overall excellence during training. He also secured the first position in the Order of Merit and was awarded the Gold Medal.

Officer Cadet Prince Raj secured the second position in the Order of Merit, while Officer Cadet Tejas Bhatt stood third and received the Bronze Medal for his outstanding performance.

The Passing Out Parade concluded with the newly commissioned officers taking the oath to serve the nation with courage and honour, marking the beginning of their journey as leaders of the Indian Army. The event once again underscored the Academy’s role in shaping future military leaders committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of the nation.
