Prime Minister Narendra Modi has created a new global social media milestone after his Instagram Reel on the government's anti-paper leak initiatives became the most-viewed Instagram Reel within 24 hours. The video garnered over 303 million views in a single day, surpassing the previous world record of 300 million views and setting a new benchmark on the platform.
The record-breaking reel, shared by the Prime Minister on Thursday night, focused on the Centre's roadmap to combat examination paper leaks and overhaul India's examination system amid nationwide protests over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. The video also witnessed extraordinary public engagement, attracting more than 16 million likes, 1.5 million comments, and helping PM Modi's Instagram account gain nearly one million new followers overnight.
The achievement eclipsed the earlier record of 300 million views, reportedly held by internet personality IShowSpeed for a reel featuring his meeting with the globally popular music group BTS during the FIFA World Cup.
The Prime Minister's social media milestone comes against the backdrop of an intense political debate and widespread student protests over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. Through the viral reel, PM Modi announced that the government was preparing a stringent legal framework to deal with examination fraud. He said the Centre would introduce legislation to establish Fast-Track Courts for paper leak cases and ensure strict punishment for those involved.
A day later, the Prime Minister shared a second Instagram video thanking young people for their overwhelming response and constructive feedback.
"Thank you, friends. I had the opportunity to meet you late last night. I appreciate the way you responded to my video and your positive suggestions. Thanks to everyone," PM Modi said in the video message.
He further added, "Last night, I got the opportunity to interact with you. The way you responded to the video I posted and shared your positive suggestions—thanks to everybody. Your love and support continue, and our connection grows even stronger and more active."
The Prime Minister's outreach comes as the government faces sustained criticism from the Opposition and protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak controversy. The Opposition has been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and a detailed discussion on the issue during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
In a self-recorded video shared on X on Thursday, PM Modi announced that the Union Cabinet would soon consider a draft Bill aimed at strengthening the legal framework against paper leaks.
"I have issued directions to departments to set up Fast-Track Courts," the Prime Minister said, while adding that stricter action against those involved in examination fraud would soon be approved by the Cabinet.
Along with the video, he posted, "More strict actions against paper leaks to come in tomorrow's Cabinet!"
Addressing students and parents, PM Modi acknowledged the emotional toll caused by paper leak incidents.
"I know that paper leaks are not an ordinary matter. For lakhs of students and their parents, it is extremely painful," he said.
Highlighting the government's response over the past two and a half months, the Prime Minister said the accused had been arrested and were currently in jail. He also stressed that the Centre's immediate priority was to ensure that students did not lose an academic year due to the controversy.
"Our most important responsibility was to ensure that a whole year for the students is not wasted. It was very important to conduct the exams immediately. The government used its full strength to arrange exams for nearly 22 lakh students in the shortest possible time. And just five or six days ago, on the 19th, the results were also announced," PM Modi said.
