Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan this Sunday, marking a major nationwide initiative aimed at combating drug abuse among the youth and reinforcing the government's vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat (Drug-Free India) and Viksit Bharat 2047.
The announcement was made by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya during the Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha while responding to supplementary questions. He said the campaign seeks to mobilise young people and various sections of society in a collective effort to eliminate the menace of substance abuse from the country.
Dr. Mandaviya highlighted that a broad coalition of spiritual organisations, colleges, universities and volunteers associated with MY Bharat is coming together on a single platform to create awareness and encourage youth to lead a drug-free lifestyle. He said the campaign reflects the government's belief that social participation is essential for addressing challenges such as drug addiction.
Expressing concern over the growing trend of substance abuse among young people, the minister said the increasing number of youth falling prey to drug addiction poses a serious challenge to the country's social and economic progress. He stressed that safeguarding the health and well-being of the younger generation is crucial for achieving India's long-term development goals.
He noted that no nation can become prosperous and developed unless its citizens are healthy. According to Dr. Mandaviya, a healthy society forms the foundation of a prosperous nation, making the fight against drug abuse not only a public health priority but also a national development imperative.
The Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan is expected to focus on awareness generation, community participation, educational outreach and youth engagement. Educational institutions and social organisations will play a significant role in spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promoting healthy lifestyles among students and young citizens.
The initiative aligns with the government's broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, which aims to transform India into a fully developed nation by the centenary of its independence. By encouraging a healthier, more responsible and empowered youth population, the campaign seeks to strengthen the country's human capital and contribute to sustainable national development.
With Prime Minister Modi set to formally launch the campaign this weekend, the government hopes the movement will inspire widespread public participation and evolve into a nationwide mission to build a drug-free, healthy and prosperous India.
