PM Modi Holds Talks with Venezuela's Acting President Delcy Rodriguez to Boost Bilateral Cooperation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held high-level talks with Venezuela's Acting President Delcy Rodríguez in New Delhi on Thursday, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across a range of strategic sectors, including energy security, trade, investment, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, transportation, and renewable energy.

Rodríguez arrived in India on a five-day official visit on June 3, accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Venezuela's Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Economy and Finance, Science and Technology, and Transportation. The visit is aimed at deepening engagement between the two countries and exploring new avenues for collaboration.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the discussions between the two leaders cover the full spectrum of India-Venezuela relations. Both sides are expected to review existing partnerships and identify opportunities to enhance cooperation in sectors that are crucial to their economic development and energy security.

Energy remains a key pillar of the India-Venezuela partnership. Venezuela has emerged as an important supplier of crude oil to India, while Indian public sector enterprises have made substantial investments in the South American nation's energy sector. During the visit, both countries are expected to discuss ways to strengthen these ties further and encourage greater participation by Indian companies in Venezuela's energy industry.

The Venezuelan delegation will also visit several industrial and technological facilities related to India's energy, pharmaceutical, and automobile sectors. These visits are intended to provide insights into India's manufacturing and technological capabilities and help identify new opportunities for joint ventures, technology transfer, and investment.

Apart from energy cooperation, healthcare and pharmaceuticals are expected to feature prominently in the discussions. India has established itself as a global leader in affordable medicines and healthcare solutions, making the sector a promising area for expanded cooperation with Venezuela. Transportation infrastructure and renewable energy development are also likely to receive significant attention as both nations seek to diversify their economic partnerships.

The visit comes at a time when India is looking to diversify its energy imports and strengthen ties with resource-rich nations. Bilateral trade between India and Venezuela has shown steady growth, supported by cooperation in energy, investment, pharmaceuticals, and emerging technologies.

Officials believe that Rodríguez's visit will further consolidate the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries and provide fresh momentum to their strategic partnership. The engagement is expected to result in enhanced economic cooperation and stronger people-to-people and institutional ties across a broad range of sectors.
