Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually inaugurated a new chapter in the lives of over 61,000 young Indians, handing over appointment letters to newly recruited youth across the nation at the 18th edition of the Rozgar Mela. The event, held via video conferencing, saw the Prime Minister framing the government appointments as a direct invitation to participate in nation-building.
Addressing the recruits, PM Modi stated, "On this important day, more than 61,000 young people in the country are beginning a new chapter in their lives. Today, all of you are receiving your appointment letters for government services. In a way, this is an invitation letter to nation-building, a pledge to accelerate the development of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India)."
A Push for Inclusion and Security
Highlighting the scale and focus of the recruitment drive, the Prime Minister noted that a significant majority—49,200 appointment letters—were associated with the Ministry of Home Affairs and paramilitary forces. He particularly emphasized the increasing inclusion of women in the security apparatus, crediting policy reforms over the last decade.
"Women constables are being appointed in huge numbers. This has been possible because over the last 11 years, our government has introduced a large number of enabling provisions," PM Modi said. Illustrating this point, he highlighted that Border Security Force (BSF) women troops are now deployed at the zero line along borders, and for the first time, a woman Assistant Commandant will lead all-male CRPF contingents at the Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path this January 26.
Global Opportunities and Infrastructure-Led Employment
Positioning India's youth on a global stage, the Prime Minister outlined how government diplomacy is translating into career opportunities. "Currently, the Government of India is signing trade and mobility agreements with many countries. These trade agreements are bringing numerous new opportunities for India’s young people," he stated.
Further, he linked the government's infrastructure push directly to job creation. "In recent times, India has made unprecedented investments in modern infrastructure. This has generated huge employment opportunities in every sector related to construction," PM Modi added.
A Day of Constitutional Significance
The Prime Minister connected the event to its date, January 24, which marks 76 years since the adoption of Jana Gana Mana as India's national anthem. He urged the new appointees to embrace their responsibilities towards the Constitution.
"This time is also bringing you closer to your responsibilities towards the Constitution... This appointment letter is, in a way, an invitation letter for nation-building. This is a 'sankalp patra' (pledge document) for giving direction towards a Viksit Bharat," he remarked.
Nationwide Reach of the Rozgar Mela
Organized at 45 locations across the country, the Rozgar Mela saw candidates from diverse regions joining various central government ministries and departments, including Health & Family Welfare, Financial Services, and Higher Education.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the Rozgar Mela is a key initiative translating the government's commitment to employment generation into action. Since the program's inception, more than 11 lakh (1.1 million) appointment letters have been issued through these nationwide recruitment drives, underscoring its scale as a sustained employment initiative.
