Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the French city of Evian on Tuesday for a two-day visit to participate in the G7 Summit, which began yesterday. The visit marks India’s continued engagement with major global economies and comes at a time when discussions on international cooperation, sustainable development, and geopolitical challenges are high on the global agenda.
Upon his arrival in Evian, Prime Minister Modi shared a message on social media, expressing his eagerness to engage with world leaders and exchange views on pressing global issues. He reiterated India’s commitment to advancing collective efforts aimed at building a more sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future for all.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister made a brief stop in Geneva, Switzerland, where he was received at the airport by Swiss President Guy Parmelin. The two leaders exchanged warm greetings and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the India-Switzerland partnership across various sectors. Following the interaction, PM Modi proceeded to Evian, situated approximately 45 kilometres from Geneva.
This year marks Prime Minister Modi’s seventh consecutive participation in the G7 Summit and India’s 13th appearance at the forum. India’s consistent presence at the summit underscores its growing influence in global affairs and its role in addressing key international challenges related to peace, security, economic growth, and sustainable development.
The summit is expected to provide an important platform for India to highlight the priorities and concerns of the Global South. As one of the leading voices representing developing nations, Prime Minister Modi is likely to advocate for greater international cooperation and equitable solutions to global issues affecting emerging economies.
French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to formally welcome the Prime Minister later in the evening. Following the welcome ceremony, PM Modi will participate in a high-level working session titled “Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity.” The session will bring together leaders of G7 member countries, partner nations, and senior representatives from international financial institutions, including the World Bank and the African Development Bank.
On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with several world leaders. These include discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The meetings are expected to focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation and addressing regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Later in the evening, the Prime Minister will attend a gala dinner hosted by President Macron for summit participants and invited leaders.
A major highlight of the visit will be PM Modi’s meeting with US President Donald Trump scheduled for tomorrow. The two leaders are expected to review the progress of India-US relations and explore opportunities to deepen cooperation across sectors such as trade, technology, defence, energy, and strategic partnerships. They are also likely to exchange views on key regional and international developments.
The G7 Summit is expected to provide India with another significant opportunity to strengthen diplomatic partnerships, advance its global priorities, and reinforce its position as a leading voice in shaping solutions to contemporary international challenges.
