Over 99.8% Voter Coverage Achieved in Bihar Under Special Intensive Revision Initiative: Election Commission

In a significant development ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that over 99.8% of electors in Bihar have been successfully covered under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. This high percentage indicates near-complete voter enumeration across the state, reflecting the robustness of the ongoing electoral management process.

According to an official statement from the Election Commission, the SIR initiative has led to the identification and removal of a large number of inaccurate or outdated entries from the voters’ list. The EC reported that 22 lakh electors were found to be deceased, over 35 lakh had permanently migrated out of the state, and around 7 lakh electors were enrolled at more than one location, raising concerns about duplication.

While the majority of the data has been updated, enumeration forms for approximately 1.2 lakh electors are still pending and are expected to be processed in the coming days. The EC emphasized that efforts are underway to ensure 100% coverage and verification before the final roll is prepared.

The Commission has confirmed that the Draft Electoral Roll will be published on August 1, paving the way for further scrutiny, claims, and objections from the public. Citizens will be given an opportunity to review the draft list and raise concerns, if any, regarding inclusion, deletion, or correction of entries.

The Special Intensive Revision was launched to enhance the accuracy of the electoral rolls and ensure that every eligible citizen is correctly represented. The EC has collaborated with Booth Level Officers (BLOs), district administrations, and state authorities to execute the exercise across all districts in Bihar.

With this comprehensive revision, the Commission aims to reduce errors and strengthen electoral transparency ahead of future elections. The high percentage of coverage also reflects the effective coordination and public participation during the campaign.

The final electoral roll, post disposal of claims and objections, will serve as the foundation for any upcoming elections in the state, including the much-anticipated local body and assembly elections.
