Open letter of 117 celebrities over SC judges' observations on Nupur

The protest started over the Supreme Court's remarks against the suspended BJP member Nupur Sharma has not stopped. 15 former judges of the country, 77 former IAS and 25 retired army officers have written an open letter raising questions on the Supreme Court. A group of former judges and bureaucrats on Tuesday criticized the SC's remarks, alleging that the country's highest court has crossed the Lakshman Rekha. Steps have been demanded for immediate rectification. The letter said that these unfortunate remarks are a stain which cannot be erased. In fact, a bench of Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant and Justice JB Pardiwala had strongly reprimanded Nupur Sharma for her controversial remarks. The SC had said that her (Nupur's) 'uncontrollable tongue' set the entire country on fire. She alone is responsible for whatever is happening in the country. Now an open letter has been sent to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in protest against these remarks The letter mentioned that Nupur Sharma had requested access to the justice system before the Supreme Court. It said that the court's observations are judicially unrelated to the issue raised in the petition and have "unforeseen contravention of all the principles of the judicial system". and in the process violated the preamble, spirit and essence of the Constitution of India. The statement claimed that these comments "indirectly exempted the dastardly act of daylight beheading in Udaipur". By Vijayraj Surana
