Nuh violence : Another successful exploitation of emotions by anti-India forces

Nuh violence : Another successful exploitation of emotions by anti-India forces

It may look strange but violence taking place around the world has the same pattern. In the past also we have discussed cases of disproportionate violence in the incidence of France, Nupur Sharma, and Black Lives Matter.

The author will like to repeat what we examined in the previous article,

“Exploiting the vulnerability.

It seems that certain predisposing risk factors are associated with the brainwashing of youth to terrorism. This may include the presence of some emotional vulnerability, alienation, disenfranchisement; or dissatisfaction with the present state of affairs. This led to the belief that democracy is useless to improve it. Then it is further instigated to identify with sure perceived victims or agenda, leading to the belief that engaging in violence against the state is not immoral at all; and the worst part is the belief that this will fetch reward in heaven.”

In the present case of Nuh violence again the trigger is the alleged video of a so-called cow protection volunteer. More alarming is the selective use of the court when the violence became harmful to the interests of the initiators. It would have been much easier to nab the culprit at the initial stage itself. However, only a premeditated and organized network can execute the strategy of initiating violence. Starting the violence or blockade breaking all the rules and approaching the court after destroying the peace and harmony might be a good strategy for anti-national forces but it should have been a grave concern for the nation. It is high time to investigate the alliance between these forces and the legal teams protecting them.

A similar trigger was exploited in Delhi violence.

The inefficiency of cyber cells which are supposed to monitor misinformation is reflected in the article posted on Wikipedia. As soon as one googles ‘Delhi violence 2020’

The following article is the outcome.

“The 2020 Delhi riots, or North East Delhi riots”

The starting paragraph reads,

“were multiple waves of bloodshed, property destruction, and rioting in North East Delhi, beginning on 23 February 2020 and caused chiefly by Hindu mobs attacking Muslims.[13][14] Of the 53 people killed, two-thirds were Muslims who were shot, slashed with repeated blows, or set on fire”

Nobody bothered to counter this misinformation, this article has more than two hundred references taken from Indian as well as global media. The murder of Ankit Sharma and many attacks on other police officers have been placed after reference number 98. What is needed is to correct the chronology and the facts will be straight (Wikipedia is open to corrections). The findings at Tahir Hussain's house, the firing and petrol bombs and the big slingshot ( Gulel ), and the filing of charges against him are at reference number 218.

●             “ Jha, Prashant (23 March 2023). "Delhi Riots 2020: Delhi Court frames murder charges against Tahir Hussain, 10 Others for Death for IB Officer Ankit Sharma". Bar and Bench - Indian Legal news. Retrieved 24 March 2023.”

Now this article posted on Wikipedia is good enough to raise the emotion of any sensible human being. But if the same article is read starting from the references given at the end, it will give the true picture.

The big question is Why Indian law and order machinery is not sensitive to misinformation being spread?

Neither the courts nor the media ever ask the question of why the miscreants who approach the court as soon as the reaction to their misdeeds start harming them, did not approach the court before starting the violence and hurting the innocent public. Why they are afraid of nabbing the culprit lawfully?

While Nupur Sharma, Kapil Sharma, and others are blasted by courts but even a passing reference is not made to those who instigated the incident. As a result, it is easy to instigate an emotionally charged crowd. The crowd will get prosecuted but the scoundrels who instigated will start working on another trigger as and when available.

Position of Nuh before riots.

The author has gathered the following information from different newspapers.

•             “Its claim to fame, apart from the Islamic preachers (Tablighi Jamaat), is the notorious Mewati gangs — criminals who have been giving police from neighboring areas, including the national capital region (NCR), sleepless nights.

●             arrest of suspected al Qaeda operative Abdul Sami from Mewat

●             in July 2014 Delhi Police claimed to have arrested a suspected top Lashkar-e-Taiba operative and Mewat resident Abdul Subhan for alleged involvement in influencing youths.

●             Mohammad Shahid and Qari Rashid, both local Imams and residents of Mewat, were also arrested for alleged terror links. Though none of these three have been convicted so far, concern over Mewat’s ‘terror’ connection was raised.

●             nearly 100 gangs are active in the areas bordering the district. Thirty are big gangs whose livelihood depends just on criminal activities.

●             they have become more organized and indulge not only in robbing trucks on the highways but also demand ransom from the families after kidnapping the drivers,” said Rajinder Singh, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), operations, (South District) who dealt with Mewati gangs for years.

●             At the district jail in Bhondsi near Gurgaon, 500 out of 2100 inmates are from Mewat.

●             “If some police party stops them, they would attack it with stones and firearms,” said Virender Jain, station house officer, Vasant Kunj (South).

●             With help from intelligence agencies from last September to November, police blacklisted more than 50 people who came from various countries to Mewat as part of Tablighi Jamaat —

●             The Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd started setting up industrial units at Roz ka Meo, but that did not fetch results as not many industries wanted to come.

●             Data obtained from the home ministry indicates that the Mewat region has become India’s newest hub for cybercriminals.

Even before the present violence, Nuh was not a place contributing to peace and harmony.

Where lies the fault?

Can one believe that the population living at Nuh is a result of honouring a call given by Mahatma Gandhi, not to leave their homeland despite being Muslim? The majority of villagers are Muslim Meos who claim descent from Hindu Lord Rama to the extent that the win over rivals was equated with that of Raja Ram over Ravan.

All this changed after the intervention of Tabligh Jamat founded by Maulana Ilyas an Islamic scholar. He realized that despite being Muslims Mewatis did not have a good understanding of Islamic practices and needed to be introduced to Islamic practices and o be brought back to the folds of Islam. Maulana Ilyas visited Ferozepur Namak in Mewat for the first time in 1925. Tabligh Jamaat’s (TB) aim is not to capture political power. The top goals are given below.

●             Islamic education (especially for children, at home),

●             Modest Islamic dress and appearance (shaving the mustache and allowing the beard to grow long),

●             Rejection of other religions,

●             High regard for other Muslims and protecting their honor,

●             Propagating Islam,

●             Self-financing of tabligh trips,

●             Lawful means of earning a living, and

●             Strict avoidance of divisive and sectarian issues.

Not promoting violent Jihad is preferred by most of the governments in the world except Saudi and a few erstwhile Soviet countries. What these governments have missed is that the rejection of other religions and accepting modest Islamic dress and appearance itself create a distance from having an association with national identity. Terrorist jihadi groups find it easy to influence these people to join their agenda. That is the reason every terrorist group is allegedly establishing their network in the Mewat area.

Time for Tablighi Jamat to accept that its preachings have failed to bring peace and harmony to the backward state of the Mewat region.

It may look harsh but the fact is with 95 percent following among Muslims and a track record of working for 98 years if some of the followers are indulging in activities mentioned above. Teachers and industrialists are not eager to join. The most backward district is so close to the national capital and basic resources like education, and medical care are not available. Think of some other NGO working like this, what will be the fate of that NGO?

The backwardness of Mewat surprises. Skyscrapers and offices of the world’s renowned companies are mushrooming in Manesar. Why the development is avoiding Mewat? Criminals are the cause of something else one wonders! even today all efforts of the government have failed to bring industry. In the development from Gurugram to Ghaziabad, the misguided youth here see an opportunity for crime. According to the National Family Health Survey, Nuh is the second poorest district among the 35 districts of NCR. In terms of wealth, Palwal is 10 times richer than Nuh, Rewari 15 times, Faridabad 18 times, and Gurugram 19 times.

TB has to think about course correction. With its preachings, it has brought Meos into the fold of Islam but has failed to teach its followers to follow the law and make the area safe for industry and government employees. There is not enough evidence that it has condemned those who indulge in criminal activities. On the contrary, the recent COVID endemic era has exposed TB itself for calling for Tablighi gatherings and inviting foreigners despite bans imposed by the government which led to an explosive situation that was defused by the intervention of the national security adviser only.

“Markaz leadership agreed to vacate Nizamuddin Mosque after NSA Ajit Doval's intervention. He only could convince the Markaz leadership to vacate the mosque after the Delhi Police and other authorities faced resistance.” April 1 2020 India Today.

Do we need to modify our policy of encouraging minorities as well as the regional population to preserve their culture?

The issues like not saying Bharat Mata ki Jay, not respecting the national flag, the demand of Khalistan, etc. are indicating that these laws are being misused and these need to have qualifying conditions of respecting the national flag, constitution, and fundamental duties. The Institutions failing to abide should not be allowed to operate. Any institution claiming benefit has to maintain a safe distance from anti-national forces and have to come out in full support of the nation.

Political parties should refrain from encouraging regional or religious agenda which harm the national interest.

Poor investigation and worst prosecution.

Indian police focus more on arrests and less on investigations. They give big press releases on arrest but most of the cases fall flat in the courts. While news reports published indicated that from 26 to 30 March. Six people who were a part of the congregation died due to COVID, and 477 tested COVID-positive. At the Nizamuddin Markaz, 32 out of 1,500 persons who stayed there were found to be infected on March 28, 2020; by 31 March 2020, 207 had been admitted to hospitals and 860 were quarantined. There were reports of misbehaving with medical staff. Yet not much is visible when we search for actual prosecution.

Challenges ahead.

The model to convert a small trigger into big violence is working fine for anti-national forces. The response of the government is to minimize losses and restore normalcy at the earliest. But our experience is that India being a country full of diversity will provide these small triggers that will take place now and then and people should learn to diffuse tension. If we fail to investigate, identify and prosecute the conspirators then the growth of the country will be at risk. At present the challenge is:

●             To identify the forces which are using a small dispute to create big violent unrest.

●             To identify and prosecute the forces providing them with arms, ammunition along with finance and other resources.

●             To stop feeling happy by controlling the violence only, the preparators should be delivered justice promptly

●             The legal network which provides support, is to be dismantled. A learned counsel should not be allowed to go Scot-free if the fee is paid by dubious organizations. If the learned legal counsel is not able to distinguish between good money and bad one then the law universities have to revisit their curriculum.

●             We have to stop looking at individual incidents and look for patterns and find a solution that creates fear in the minds of the conspirators.

●             Political parties have to remain united, in present violence the chief minister and deputy chief minister have chosen to disagree in public which is not a good sign.

Delhi, Haryana, U.P and Rajasthan police to work in harmony and deal with gangs at Nuh as done for Chambal Ravines.

Chambal ravines baghis (dacoits) were a much bigger challenge that has been resolved with the help of social organizations, political parties, and joint state police action. The same model was used for eliminating the notorious Veerappan gang. It is unfortunate that stalwarts like Vinoba Bhave or Jai Prakash Narayan are not available in Mewat and it is not on the agenda of Tablighi Zamat. It’s high time that the authorities and the public come together to fight this menace. It will be expecting too much from NSA to influence Tablighi Jamaat to join this mission.  Nuh should eliminate the factors leading to youth becoming criminals.it is not only urgent but very important as allegedly ISIS and Al Qaeda are spreading their wings. People of Nuh, as well as people in neighbouring areas deserve a better life full of peace and prosperity.
