Nitin Nabin Elected BJP National President Unopposed, Signalling Strong Internal Consensus

In a display of rare unanimity, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nitin Nabin was on Monday elected as the party’s national president without opposition, underscoring broad-based support across the organisation. The BJP confirmed that as many as 37 sets of nomination papers were filed in Nabin’s favour, with no other candidate proposed for the top post.

Nabin succeeds JP Nadda, who recently assumed charge as the Union Health Minister in the Narendra Modi government. The smooth transition at the helm of the party reflects both organisational continuity and confidence in Nabin’s leadership at a time when the BJP is preparing for key electoral and political challenges ahead.

The nomination process itself highlighted the depth of support Nabin enjoys within the party. Health Minister JP Nadda and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh formally submitted his nomination papers to the party’s Returning Officer, K Laxman. The occasion was attended by several senior leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, and senior BJP figures such as Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupendra Yadav and Kiren Rijiju.

Further reinforcing the consensus, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, along with other state leaders, later submitted another set of nomination papers backing Nabin’s candidature. The event drew a wide cross-section of the BJP’s leadership, with Chief Ministers Yogi Adityanath (Uttar Pradesh), Pushkar Singh Dhami (Uttarakhand), Nayab Singh Saini (Haryana) and Pramod Sawant (Goa) in attendance. Leaders from Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam, Jharkhand and several other states also filed nominations in his support, signalling pan-India endorsement.

With his election as national president, Nitin Nabin assumes the party’s top organisational role, placing him at the centre of strategic decision-making and coordination between the BJP’s central leadership and its state units.

Now let's talk about Nitin Nabin

Nitin Nabin is a seasoned BJP leader from Bihar who has steadily built a strong political profile through sustained grassroots engagement and organisational work. Born in Patna, he is the son of the late Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a respected BJP leader and former MLA. After his father’s untimely demise, Nabin entered active politics and gradually established his own identity within the party.

He has been a consistent and popular representative of the Bankipur Assembly constituency in Patna. Known for his organisational skills and connect with voters, Nabin has won the seat in successive Assembly elections in 2010, 2015, 2020 and 2025, in addition to securing victory in a by-election in 2006. In the most recent Bihar Assembly polls, he registered a decisive win, defeating his nearest rival by a margin of over 51,000 votes.

During the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar, Nabin held key portfolios, including Road Construction and Urban Development. He later resigned from the state cabinet after being appointed as the BJP’s working president, a move seen as part of the party’s plan to groom him for larger organisational responsibilities.

Within the BJP, Nabin is widely credited with playing an important role in maintaining and managing the party’s alliance with the Janata Dal (United), a partnership that has been central to the NDA’s electoral success in Bihar. His ability to balance organisational discipline with coalition politics has earned him respect across factions.

At the national level, Nabin has also gained experience as the BJP’s in-charge for Chhattisgarh, further broadening his organisational exposure beyond his home state.

His unopposed elevation as BJP national president marks a significant moment for the party, signalling unity at the top and setting the stage for the next phase of its political and organisational journey under his leadership.
