Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey has approached the Supreme Court seeking to put an end to the growing row over his forthcoming project, submitting an affidavit that confirms the original title, Ghooskhor Pandat, has been dropped. The move follows sharp remarks from the court during an earlier hearing, where judges flagged concerns over the deliberate choice of such names.
In his latest submission, Pandey clarified that the film would not proceed with the earlier title. He also assured the bench that the project is a work of complete fiction—a police procedural with no links to any religion, community, or caste.
The filmmaker further emphasized that there was no intent to harm religious sentiments, and that the film was conceived solely as a commercial entertainment venture.
The Supreme Court is expected to take up the matter later today. In its previous hearing, the court had voiced strong disapproval of the growing trend of using provocative or communally sensitive titles to generate buzz, and directed the makers to reconsider and rename the project.
Further details are being awaited.
