NDA Storms Back to Power in Bihar, Nearing Landmark 200-Seat Mark

In a resounding endorsement of the ruling coalition, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is headed for a spectacular victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, leaving the Opposition Mahagathbandhan trailing by a massive margin. The alliance, which includes Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), is poised to secure a second term with a commanding mandate.

As per the latest trends from the Election Commission of India, the NDA is leading in a staggering 200 seats, far surpassing the majority mark of 122 in the 243-member assembly. This performance places it as the coalition's second-best electoral showing in the state's history, just shy of the 206-seat tally achieved in 2010.

A Verdict for Development and Stability

The election results are being widely interpreted as a vote for the development agenda and political stability offered by the NDA. BJP's state unit chief, Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, captured the mood of the victors, stating that the public sentiment was never in doubt.

"From the very first and second phases, it was clear from the voters' faces and their words that the NDA government was set to retain power," Jaiswal told PTI. He credited the victory to the people of Bihar placing their trust in "the world's most popular leader, Narendra Modi."

The massive lead underscores the success of the NDA's campaign, which heavily centered on the combined leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and their promise of continued governance.

Mahagathbandhan Reels Under Electoral Tsunami

The Opposition Mahagathbandhan, or grand alliance, finds itself facing a sweeping defeat. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), its principal constituent, is leading on a mere 39 seats. The Indian National Congress and Mukesh Sahani’s Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) are unlikely to win a single seat, a devastating blow for the coalition.

Among the Left partners, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation is leading in four seats, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in one. The election also proved challenging for new entrants, with Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party failing to make a significant impact.

Record Voter Turnout Signals Strong Mandate

The 2025 Bihar polls were historic even before the results, setting a new benchmark for voter participation. Bihar voted in two phases—on November 6 and November 11. The first phase saw a 65.08% turnout, while the second phase recorded an even higher 69.20%. The total voter turnout was officially recorded at 67.13%, the highest in Bihar’s electoral history, indicating a deeply engaged electorate.

PM Modi to Lead Celebrations

In celebration of the massive victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters in New Delhi this evening to address party workers. His address is expected to set the tone for the NDA's next term in Bihar, reinforcing its national agenda and the state's role within it.

With the NDA crossing the 200-seat threshold, the alliance is set to form a robust government, armed with a clear mandate to govern. The results mark not just a victory for the coalition but a stark reconfiguration of Bihar's political landscape, leaving the Opposition with the formidable task of introspection and rebuilding.
