Puducherry is poised to witness the return of a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, led by N. Rangaswamy’s All India N.R. Congress (AINRC), as early trends from the Assembly election counting indicate a clear advantage for the alliance.
Out of the total 30 Assembly constituencies, results for 14 seats have been declared so far. According to the Election Commission, AINRC has secured victory in 7 seats, emerging as the single largest party in the initial phase of counting. Its ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has won 2 seats, strengthening the NDA’s overall position in the Union Territory.
Other parties have made limited gains, with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Indian National Congress, and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) winning one seat each. Additionally, Independent candidates have claimed victory in two constituencies, adding an element of unpredictability to the final tally.
In a significant development, Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy has been re-elected from the Thattanchavady constituency, defeating his nearest rival E. Vinayagam of the Neyam Makkal Kazhagam by a margin of 4,441 votes. His victory reinforces his political stronghold in the region and boosts the NDA’s confidence.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate and Home Minister A. Namassivayam secured a decisive win from the Mannadipet constituency, defeating his opponent by a margin of 6,110 votes. His victory further consolidates the BJP’s presence in the Union Territory.
The counting process for all 30 constituencies is currently underway across six designated centres in Puducherry, with tight security arrangements in place to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
As more results are awaited, the early trends clearly indicate that the NDA is on track to form the next government in Puducherry, with AINRC playing a pivotal role in shaping the political landscape once again.
