Myanmar: NLD party confident to retain its majority after election

A spokesman of the Myanmar's ruling party, National League for Democracy (NLD) has expressed confidence that the party can retain its majority in Parliament after Sunday's election. The election commission has not released preliminary results, saying that vote counting will require time. The NLD led by Aung San Suu Kyi came to power after a 2015 landslide in which it won a total of 390 seats in the Parliament. Myanmar went into this election under a cloud of a surging COVID-19 outbreak, economic hardship and escalating ethnic conflicts.
