Odisha is steadily strengthening its position as a major destination for renewable energy investments, attracting prospective investment proposals worth ₹1,17,557 crore through 18 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 in New Delhi. The proposed investments, representing a tentative capacity addition of 11,742 MW, underline the State's growing ambitions to become a national hub for clean energy, green industries and sustainable economic development.
The significant investment interest emerged during the four-day Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo, where Odisha showcased its renewable energy potential and opportunities across emerging green sectors. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the Odisha Pavilion along with the Netherlands Pavilion, highlighting the State's commitment to strengthening domestic and international partnerships in the renewable energy sector. Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo joined Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in inaugurating the Odisha Pavilion as well as the Netherlands Pavilion at the summit in New Delhi. Describing the occasion as a privilege, Singh Deo highlighted the importance of the event in presenting Odisha's renewable energy ambitions to national and international investors.
The 18 MoUs cover a diverse range of renewable energy and associated infrastructure projects, including pumped storage, solar power, wind energy, hybrid renewable energy systems, battery energy storage, green hydrogen and green data centres. The proposed capacity addition of 11,742 MW reflects the scale and diversity of opportunities that investors see in Odisha's evolving clean-energy ecosystem.
The investment proposals are particularly significant at a time when India is accelerating its transition towards sustainable energy sources while seeking to strengthen energy security and reduce dependence on conventional fuels. Odisha's ability to attract investments across multiple segments of the renewable energy value chain indicates that its ambitions extend beyond power generation to encompass energy storage, emerging technologies and green industrial infrastructure.
The Odisha Pavilion served as an important platform for presenting the State's strategic advantages to domestic and international investors. It highlighted Odisha's geographical strengths, renewable energy resources, progressive policy framework, infrastructure capabilities and expanding opportunities in emerging green sectors. The enthusiastic response from investors and industry representatives reflected growing confidence in the State's development strategy and its potential to become a competitive destination for clean-energy projects.
The inauguration of the Netherlands Pavilion alongside the Odisha Pavilion also highlighted the importance of international cooperation in advancing renewable energy technologies and investments. Partnerships with countries possessing expertise in clean-energy innovation, technology and sustainable infrastructure could further strengthen Odisha's ability to develop large-scale renewable energy projects and attract global investment.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the Odisha government has placed renewable energy and sustainable industrial growth among its important development priorities. The State's strategy seeks to combine its natural resources, infrastructure development and investment-friendly policies to create an ecosystem capable of supporting the next generation of energy technologies.
As the country moves towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future, Odisha's growing renewable energy ambitions could contribute significantly to energy security, industrial competitiveness, technological innovation and environmental protection. The investment proposals announced at the summit send a strong signal that the State is not merely participating in India's clean-energy transition but aspiring to become one of its leading contributors.
