Lok Sabha Election Phase 7 LIVE Updates: 40% Voting till 1PM

The seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections is underway today, marking the culmination of a heated and vigorous campaign season. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is one of the prominent leaders contesting in this decisive phase.

As of 1 PM, voter turnout stood at 40% across the seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Among these, Bihar recorded the lowest voter turnout with over 35%, while Himachal Pradesh saw the highest at 48.6%.

Voting is taking place in 57 constituencies, which include thirteen seats each in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, nine in West Bengal, eight in Bihar, six in Odisha, four in Himachal Pradesh, three in Jharkhand, and the sole Lok Sabha seat in Chandigarh. This phase will determine the political fates of 904 candidates.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking re-election from Varanasi, a seat he won with a significant margin in the previous election. Other notable BJP candidates include Union Minister Anurag Thakur, who is contesting from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, Ravi Shankar Prasad from Patna Sahib in Bihar, and actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.

From the Congress, Manish Tewari is vying for the Chandigarh seat, Vikramaditya Singh is contesting from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, and Ajay Rai is challenging PM Modi in Varanasi. In West Bengal, Trinamool Congress's Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is contesting from Diamond Harbour.

The campaign leading up to this final phase was marked by intense rallies and speeches from top leaders of all major parties. The BJP's campaign focused heavily on national security, economic development, and Prime Minister Modi's leadership. Meanwhile, the Congress and other opposition parties targeted the BJP on issues such as unemployment, farmers' distress, and alleged corruption.

The Election Commission has made extensive arrangements to ensure smooth and fair polling. Security has been beefed up in all the constituencies, especially in regions that have witnessed violence or disturbances in previous phases.

The outcome of this phase is crucial as it includes some of the most politically significant and volatile regions. The performance of candidates in Uttar Pradesh, often considered a bellwether state, will be particularly watched. Similarly, the results in Bengal and Bihar could significantly impact the overall electoral outcome.

As polling progresses, all eyes will be on the voter turnout and any emerging reports of irregularities or disturbances. The final phase of voting not only concludes the long-drawn election process but also sets the stage for the counting of votes and the eventual formation of the next government.

Stay tuned for more live updates as the day progresses and voters continue to cast their ballots in what promises to be a defining moment for Indian democracy.
