The annual Shri Amarnath Yatra commenced ceremonially on Monday with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha performing the traditional 'Pratham Puja' at the sacred Amarnath cave shrine, marking the official beginning of one of India's most revered Hindu pilgrimages.

The annual pilgrimage will formally begin on July 3 and continue until August 28, during which lakhs of devotees from across the country are expected to visit the holy cave shrine nestled in the Himalayas.

Following the special prayers, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that the administration, the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, security forces, local residents, service providers, and volunteers were working in close coordination to ensure that pilgrims have a safe, hassle-free, and memorable journey.

He emphasized that all stakeholders had joined hands to make comprehensive arrangements for the smooth conduct of the yatra, with a strong focus on security, logistics, healthcare, and other essential services.

Sinha further said that both the authorities and the people of the Union Territory were fully prepared to welcome the pilgrims. He noted that significant facilities have been put in place along the pilgrimage routes and at key locations to ensure the comfort and convenience of devotees throughout the 57-day pilgrimage.

The Shri Amarnath Yatra is one of the country's most significant annual religious pilgrimages, attracting devotees who undertake the challenging trek to the holy cave shrine, where the naturally formed ice Shivling is revered as a manifestation of Lord Shiva.

With extensive security deployments and enhanced infrastructure in place, the administration is aiming to facilitate a peaceful and well-organized pilgrimage season for all devotees visiting the shrine this year.
