Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, a prominent leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has reappeared in Ranchi after being declared "missing" by the BJP. The BJP's assertions came after Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials failed to locate Soren for over 24 hours following his last sighting in Delhi on Sunday night.
Soren's sudden reappearance followed a period of intense political speculation and activity both in Ranchi and Delhi. The Chief Minister, after meeting with MLAs from the ruling coalition in Jharkhand, addressed the media, stating, "I will tell you everything soon."
The sequence of events leading to Soren's "disappearance" and subsequent reappearance has raised eyebrows and stirred political tensions. ED officials, pursuing a money laundering case, visited Soren's Delhi address but were unable to locate him. During their visit, the agency seized ₹36 lakh in cash and Soren's BMW car. However, Soren was nowhere to be found at his residences in Delhi or at Jharkhand Bhavan.
The BJP swiftly capitalized on Soren's absence, claiming he was "on the run" and even offering a cash reward for information about his whereabouts. However, the JMM consistently asserted that they were in contact with the Chief Minister. In a counter-narrative, the Congress accused the BJP of fabricating the "missing" claim to orchestrate a situation conducive to imposing President's rule in the state.
Governor CP Radhakrishnan emphasized the need for adherence to the law while closely monitoring the situation. Speculation regarding the next course of action intensified as all MLAs of the ruling alliance were instructed to remain in Ranchi.
Further complicating matters, BJP MP and Jharkhand leader Dr. Nishikant Dubey alleged a conspiracy to name Soren's wife, Kalpana, as the next Chief Minister. Dubey's claims added fuel to an already heated political atmosphere.
Soren's involvement in an investigation concerning alleged illegal land ownership changes by mafia elements in Jharkhand adds a layer of complexity to the situation. The ED's actions, including the deployment of armed personnel to Soren's Delhi residence despite prior communication about his availability, have been questioned by the JMM.
Accusations against the BJP-led Centre suggest the exploitation of probe agencies for political motives. The JMM criticized the issuance of fresh summons to Soren shortly after his initial questioning, questioning the timing and intent behind the move.
The unfolding saga surrounding Hemant Soren's "disappearance" and subsequent reappearance underscores the intricate dynamics of Indian state politics and the fierce competition among rival parties.
