Jaishankar Meets Seychelles President, Emphasises Maritime Cooperation and MAHASAGAR Vision

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on Tuesday called on the President of Seychelles, Dr Patrick Herminie, in New Delhi, underscoring the growing strategic and economic partnership between the two maritime neighbours.

Following the meeting, Dr Jaishankar shared details on social media, highlighting India’s appreciation for Seychelles’ support in advancing the vision of MAHASAGAR—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. He noted that as close maritime partners in the Indian Ocean, India attaches great importance to collaboration with Seychelles for ensuring regional economic prosperity, security, and stability.

“Pleased to call on President Dr Patrick Herminie of Seychelles in New Delhi today. As maritime neighbours, India values his support towards advancing the vision MAHASAGAR for economic prosperity and security in the region,” Dr Jaishankar said in his post.

The External Affairs Minister also expressed confidence that President Herminie’s engagements with Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the day would further deepen bilateral ties. He said the high-level interactions were expected to open new avenues for cooperation across a range of sectors, including maritime security, development partnership, trade, and people-to-people exchanges.

India and Seychelles share a long-standing relationship marked by close cooperation in the Indian Ocean region. The visit is seen as a reaffirmation of both countries’ commitment to strengthening their partnership in line with shared regional priorities and India’s broader vision for a secure, stable, and prosperous maritime neighbourhood.
