There was an encounter this morning between the army, Baramulla Police and terrorists in Uri, Hathlanga, the forward area of Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 2 terrorists were killed. The area has been surrounded by security forces. There is a possibility that some more terrorists are hiding. Meanwhile, the anti-terror operation of security forces in Kokarnag area of Anantnag district continues for the fourth consecutive day. Two to three terrorists are hiding in the forests. Security forces are busy searching for them. Terrorists are being monitored through drones and bombings are being carried out to drive them out of their holes.
A Colonel, a Major of the Indian Army and a DSP of Jammu and Kashmir Police have been martyred in the anti-terrorist operation that started in Anantnag on September 13. Terrorists are also firing from hiding in the forests, which makes it clear that they have sufficient quantities of arms and ammunition. Security forces are using heavy weapons and drones to flush out the terrorists hiding in the forests. At least two terrorists, including a local Lashkar-e-Taiba operative identified as Uzair Khan, are suspected to be hiding in the forests.
On Friday, Additional Director General of Police (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar said that the operation was launched based on specific inputs. Last Thursday, anti-Pakistan protests took place in various parts of Jammu city. Panun Kashmir and Eek Sanatam Bharat Dal (ESBD) paid tribute to the personnel and demanded a massive operation against the terrorist ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
