ISRO Set to Launch EOS-05 Earth Observation Satellite Tomorrow

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the EOS-05 Earth observation satellite aboard the GSLV-F17 rocket in the early hours of Friday, marking another significant step in strengthening India’s space-based Earth observation capabilities.

ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan said the satellite is scheduled to lift off at 2:55 AM tomorrow from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. He added that all preparations for the mission have been completed at the launch centre.

According to Narayanan, EOS-05 is a state-of-the-art Earth observation spacecraft and will be India’s first imaging satellite to be placed in a geosynchronous orbit. The mission is expected to enhance the country’s ability to observe and monitor the Earth and improve the delivery of various Earth observation services.

The ISRO chief made the remarks while speaking to the media after offering prayers at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirumala on Wednesday.

Ahead of the launch, Narayanan also placed models of the GSLV-F17 rocket at the feet of Lord Venkateswara and sought blessings for the mission.

The upcoming launch highlights ISRO’s continued efforts to expand India’s satellite-based observation infrastructure. Earth observation satellites play an important role in areas such as monitoring natural resources, agriculture, weather-related events, environmental changes and disaster management.

The GSLV-F17 mission will also demonstrate the capabilities of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle in deploying a sophisticated Earth observation spacecraft into its designated orbit.

With preparations now complete, the focus has shifted to the final countdown for the launch. If successful, the EOS-05 mission will further add to India’s growing capabilities in high-resolution and advanced Earth observation and strengthen the country’s ability to provide space-based services for a wide range of applications.
