Israel Strikes Iran’s Taleghan Nuclear Facility as US-Israel vs. Iran Conflict Escalates

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has confirmed that it recently carried out a strike on a nuclear-related facility in Iran, claiming the site was involved in developing “critical capabilities” for nuclear weapons. The targeted location, identified as the Taleghan compound near Tehran, was hit during several waves of air force strikes conducted over the past few days, according to reports.

Allegations of Nuclear Weapons Development

According to the IDF, Iran had been using the Taleghan site in recent years to develop advanced explosives and conduct highly sensitive experiments linked to nuclear weapons research. The Israeli military alleges that these activities were connected to the controversial AMAD Project, which Israel claims was designed as a covert programme to build nuclear weapons capabilities.

The military said the strike was part of a broader campaign aimed at weakening what it described as the Iranian regime’s ongoing nuclear ambitions. Israeli officials have repeatedly asserted that Iran continues to pursue technologies necessary for the development of nuclear weapons, despite international scrutiny.

Earlier Strike on the Same Facility

This is not the first time the Taleghan compound has been targeted. The site was previously struck by Israel in October 2024 following a missile attack launched by Iran earlier that month. Israeli authorities said recent intelligence indicated that Iran had begun efforts to rehabilitate the facility after the earlier strike.

According to the IDF, the latest operation was intended to prevent the site from regaining operational capability and to disrupt any renewed attempts at weapons-related research.

Escalating Conflict Across the Middle East

The strike comes amid a rapidly intensifying confrontation involving Iran, Israel and the United States. The conflict has expanded beyond direct military exchanges, affecting shipping routes, energy infrastructure and civilian areas across the region.

Iran has reportedly targeted several strategic sites across the Gulf. A container ship off the coast of Dubai was struck, while a fire was reported near Bahrain International Airport. In Saudi Arabia, a drone attack reportedly hit a major oil field, raising concerns over the security of critical energy facilities.

The violence also disrupted oil operations in Iraq. Authorities were forced to halt activities at all oil terminals after an attack on the port of Basra along the Persian Gulf. Additional incidents were reported in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, further underscoring the widening scope of the conflict.

Impact on Global Energy Markets

The escalating hostilities have already begun to impact global energy markets. Concerns over potential disruptions to shipping lanes and oil infrastructure pushed crude prices above USD 100 per barrel on Thursday. Analysts warn that any prolonged instability in the Gulf region—home to some of the world’s most vital energy transit routes—could trigger further volatility in global oil supplies.

Continued Missile Exchanges

Meanwhile, the security situation in Israel remains tense. Sirens sounded before dawn in Jerusalem as Israeli defence systems intercepted incoming Iranian missiles. Later in the day, loud explosions were heard during another round of attacks targeting the city.

Israel said it responded with a “wide-scale wave of strikes” in Tehran and in Lebanon, where it claims to be targeting militants affiliated with the Iran-backed group Hezbollah. According to reports, at least 11 people were killed in two early morning strikes during the latest escalation.
