Investigation Finds No Evidence of Indian Meddling in Canadian Elections: China's Interference Confirmed

An official investigation into allegations of foreign interference in Canadian elections has concluded that India did not attempt to meddle in the country's politics. The probe, conducted by a panel of senior Canadian officials tasked with monitoring the 2021 elections, found no evidence of India utilizing any tools to influence national polls.

A key statement from a poll official involved in the investigation emphasized that there was no indication of the Government of India engaging in such activities during the 2021 election campaign. This assertion contradicts previous claims made by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), which alleged Indian interference in both the 2019 and 2021 elections.

The probe's findings come amid heightened scrutiny over foreign involvement in Canadian politics, particularly from nations like China and Pakistan. While India has been absolved of wrongdoing in the recent investigation, the role of China in interfering with Canada's last two elections has been confirmed, according to testimony heard during the official probe.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party emerged victorious in both the 2019 and 2021 elections, despite allegations of foreign meddling. Concerns raised by opposition legislators, fueled by media reports on China's potential involvement, prompted Trudeau to establish a commission to investigate foreign interference.

Trudeau himself is set to testify before the probe panel, indicating the seriousness with which his government views the issue of foreign meddling in Canadian affairs. The tensions escalated further with the revelation of China's interference, complicating an already strained relationship between Canada and the Asian superpower.

India's response to the allegations has been firm and consistent. The External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, reiterated India's commitment to non-interference in the democratic processes of other nations. He dismissed the allegations as baseless and pointed to Canada's own history of meddling in India's internal affairs.

The fallout from these allegations has had diplomatic repercussions, further straining relations between Canada and India. Trudeau's previous accusations regarding Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil have exacerbated tensions between the two nations, creating additional challenges in their bilateral relationship.

Despite India's dismissal of the allegations, the issue of foreign interference in Canadian elections remains a significant concern. The investigation's findings highlight the need for continued vigilance and cooperation to safeguard the integrity of democratic processes from external influence.
