India’s women’s kabaddi team once again stood at the top of Asian Games competition, successfully defending its gold medal with a hard-fought 37-34 victory over Iran in the final at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium. India established control early with a 22-16 half-time advantage and held its nerve when Iran launched a strong second-half fightback. The triumph adds another chapter to India’s impressive record in the event and completes a successful defence of the title won at Hangzhou.
India’s women’s kabaddi team secured another Asian Games gold medal after overcoming Iran 37-34 in a closely contested final at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium. The victory allowed India to retain the title it had won at the previous edition in Hangzhou.
The Indian side made a confident start to the final and gradually built a six-point advantage by half-time. India led 22-16 at the interval after an opening half in which both teams competed intensely, but the defending champions managed to maintain the upper hand when it mattered most.
Iran returned with greater intensity after the break and made significant efforts to reduce the deficit. The second half went in Iran’s favour, with the Iranian team scoring 18 points to India’s 15. Despite the pressure, however, India’s first-half advantage proved decisive.
With the contest entering its closing stages, Iran continued to search for a way back into the match. India responded with disciplined defensive play, preventing its opponents from completing the comeback. The Indian players maintained their composure under pressure and protected their lead until the final whistle.
The 37-34 scoreline reflected the competitive nature of the encounter, but India’s early advantage ultimately made the difference. The team’s ability to absorb Iran’s second-half pressure and close out the final ensured another gold medal for the country.
The triumph also carries significance in the context of India’s Asian Games record in women’s kabaddi. India has now won the gold medal in every edition of the Asian Games except the 2018 Jakarta Games. In Jakarta, the Indian team had to settle for silver after losing the final to Iran.
Following their latest victory, the Indian players celebrated on the court before taking a victory lap around the arena. The celebrations continued with the team chanting “Vande Mataram”, marking an emotional conclusion to their successful title defence.
With another gold medal secured, India’s women’s kabaddi team has once again demonstrated its ability to perform under pressure on the Asian Games stage. The victory over Iran not only preserved the title but also added another memorable final to the rivalry between the two sides.
