In a resolute reaffirmation of India's foreign policy stance, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar emphasized that any future engagement with Pakistan will strictly revolve around discussions on terrorism. Addressing the media in New Delhi, Dr. Jaishankar underscored that India’s approach remains unwavering, grounded in clarity and strength.
"Our relations with Pakistan will strictly remain bilateral, a consensus that has been maintained for years with no change," stated Dr. Jaishankar firmly. He clarified that any potential dialogue with Islamabad will be solely focused on counter-terrorism measures. "The Prime Minister has clearly articulated that talks will only center on terror-related issues. Pakistan needs to hand over a list of terrorists and dismantle their infrastructure. They are fully aware of what needs to be done," he asserted.
Highlighting recent developments, Dr. Jaishankar referenced Operation Sindoor, conducted on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. He emphasized the significant international backing received, citing a UNSC resolution demanding accountability for the perpetrators. "Operation Sindoor effectively held the responsible parties to account. Satellite imagery confirms the success of our strikes; the damage inflicted on them far outweighs any retaliatory efforts," he disclosed.
In a diplomatic move of consequence, Dr. Jaishankar confirmed that the Indus Waters Treaty remains suspended due to Pakistan's continued support for cross-border terrorism. "The treaty will stay in abeyance until Pakistan demonstrably and permanently halts cross-border terrorism," he affirmed.
Regarding Kashmir, Dr. Jaishankar reiterated India’s position, emphasizing that the discussion remains centered on the vacating of illegally occupied Indian territory in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. "We are open to discussions under international norms for the restoration of our sovereign land," he stated unequivocally.
Shifting focus, Dr. Jaishankar commented on ongoing trade negotiations with the United States, describing them as complex and ongoing. "India-US trade talks continue, aiming for a mutually beneficial agreement," he informed.
Additionally, Dr. Jaishankar welcomed the inauguration of the Embassy of Honduras in New Delhi, underscoring it as a positive step in India's expanding diplomatic network. "Honduras has shown solidarity with us, particularly after recent security challenges. This is reflective of growing bilateral relations," he acknowledged.
