India, Thailand Strengthen Defence Ties at 10th Defence Dialogue in Bangkok

India and Thailand have agreed to deepen cooperation in manufacturing, research, innovation, and capability development during the 10th Thailand-India Defence Dialogue held in Bangkok, underscoring their shared commitment to strengthening strategic and defence ties in the Indo-Pacific region.

The high-level dialogue was co-chaired by Thailand’s Deputy Permanent Secretary for Defence, Admiral Nuttapol Diewvanich, and India's Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Satyajit Mohanty. The meeting reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral defence cooperation and provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on regional and global security issues of mutual interest.

A key focus of the discussions was the evolving security environment in the Indo-Pacific. Both countries shared their perspectives on recent regional developments and reaffirmed the importance of closer cooperation to promote peace, stability, and prosperity across the region. The dialogue reflected the growing convergence between India and Thailand on strategic issues and their shared vision for a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

The two sides also reviewed ongoing military-to-military engagements and explored ways to further enhance cooperation in defence capability development. Discussions covered a wide range of areas, including training exchanges, capacity-building initiatives, maritime security cooperation, and collaboration in defence manufacturing and technology.

Recognising the increasing importance of innovation in modern defence preparedness, India and Thailand agreed to strengthen partnerships in research and technological development. The move is expected to create new opportunities for collaboration between defence industries and research institutions in both countries.

Maritime cooperation featured prominently in the talks, given the strategic significance of the Indian Ocean and adjoining waters. Both sides acknowledged the importance of enhancing coordination to address common challenges such as maritime security, disaster response, and transnational threats.

The dialogue also touched upon cooperation under regional and multilateral defence frameworks, including mechanisms led by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). India and Thailand reaffirmed their support for ASEAN-centric platforms and emphasized the value of multilateral engagement in addressing emerging security concerns.

Concluding the discussions, both countries reiterated their commitment to strengthening practical defence cooperation through sustained dialogue, regular exchanges, and collaborative initiatives. The outcomes of the 10th Defence Dialogue are expected to further deepen the India-Thailand strategic partnership and contribute to regional security and stability in the Indo-Pacific.
