India Slams Pakistan at UN Security Council, Reaffirms Jammu & Kashmir as Internal Part

India once again strongly countered Pakistan at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), accusing Islamabad of politicising an international forum and reiterating that Jammu and Kashmir remains an integral and internal part of India.

Responding to remarks made by Pakistan’s representative during the UNSC meeting, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Harish Parvathaneni, described the comments as “unwarranted” and criticised Pakistan for attempting to raise bilateral issues in a multilateral setting.

“It is incredible that a co-chair expected to be balanced and unbiased in conduct has chosen to politicize this forum,” Harish Parvathaneni said, according to reports.

The Indian envoy reaffirmed New Delhi’s long-standing position on Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that the Union Territory is strictly an internal matter of India.

“I would only like to stress for brevity of time that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is a matter strictly internal to India, it has always been, is and will remain so,” he stated.

India has consistently maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an inseparable part of the country and has repeatedly rejected Pakistan’s attempts to raise the issue at international platforms. Pakistan, on several occasions, has sought to bring discussions related to Jammu and Kashmir before the UNSC, drawing strong objections from New Delhi.

Second Rebuttal in a Month

The latest exchange marks the second time within a month that India has publicly rebuked Pakistan at the United Nations. Earlier this month, India criticised Islamabad over what it termed a “long-tainted record of genocidal acts” and accused it of supporting cross-border violence that has affected civilians in neighbouring Afghanistan.

During his response, Harish Parvathaneni also highlighted concerns regarding civilian casualties allegedly caused by Pakistani military actions.

“It is hypocritical to espouse high principles of international law while targeting innocent civilians in the dark,” he said while responding to Pakistan’s comments on Jammu and Kashmir.

The Indian diplomat cited findings from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), which reportedly documented 750 civilian deaths and injuries in Afghanistan during the first three months of 2026 due to cross-border armed violence attributed to Pakistani military forces.

Allegations Over Kabul Hospital Strike

India further accused Pakistan of carrying out an airstrike on the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital in Kabul during the holy month of Ramadan earlier this year.

Referring to UNAMA findings, Harish Parvathaneni said the attack resulted in heavy civilian casualties.

“According to UNAMA, this cowardly and unconscionable act of violence claimed the lives of 269 civilians and injured a further 122 in a facility which can by no means be justified as a military target,” he said.

The remarks underscore growing diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan at international forums, particularly over issues related to Jammu and Kashmir and regional security. New Delhi has repeatedly asserted that bilateral matters should not be internationalised and has continued to oppose Pakistan’s attempts to raise the Kashmir issue at global platforms.

The latest exchange at the UNSC reflects the continuing sharp differences between the two neighbours, with India maintaining its firm stance on sovereignty and territorial integrity while accusing Pakistan of misusing international institutions for political purposes.
