India registers GDP growth at 7.8%; US Calls India a Dynamic and Resilient Economy, Sees Strong Investment Opportunities

The United States has described India as a “dynamic, strong and resilient” economy after official data showed that the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 7.8 per cent. Washington said the latest growth figures reinforced the Trump administration’s assessment of India as one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies.

White House Senior Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai, in an interview with a news agency, said India’s economic performance reflected the strength and resilience of its economy. He noted that the country’s large and expanding market presents significant opportunities for American businesses and investors.

The remarks come at a time when India and the US are seeking to deepen economic ties and expand two-way investment. The Trump administration wants to encourage greater investment by American companies in India while also promoting increased Indian investment in the United States.

Desai said President Donald Trump attaches considerable importance to the relationship with India and has repeatedly highlighted his friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to him, the close political relationship between the two leaders provides an important foundation for strengthening broader bilateral ties.

The two countries are also engaged in negotiations for a proposed India-US trade agreement. Desai said discussions have progressed to the technical level, with negotiators working through several details required to finalise the pact.

Among the issues being discussed are product classifications and tariff-related rules. While such technical matters can be complex and require detailed negotiations, the US administration remains optimistic about reaching an agreement, Desai said.

A successful trade agreement could further expand market access for businesses in both countries and strengthen supply-chain cooperation. It could also provide greater certainty to exporters and investors as India and the US seek to expand bilateral commerce.

The latest US comments also underline Washington’s recognition of India’s growing economic importance. With strong domestic demand, a large consumer market and an expanding role in global supply chains, India is increasingly viewed as an important destination for international investment.

For New Delhi, stronger economic engagement with the US could support investment, technology partnerships, manufacturing and exports. For American companies, India’s rapidly expanding economy offers opportunities across sectors ranging from manufacturing and technology to infrastructure, energy and services.

The ongoing trade negotiations therefore carry significance beyond tariffs and market access. They form part of a broader effort by India and the US to build a stronger economic and strategic partnership.

With Washington expressing confidence in India’s growth prospects and optimism over the trade negotiations, the latest developments suggest that economic cooperation is likely to remain a central pillar of India-US relations.
