India, Finland Sign Key Agreements to Boost Cooperation Across Sectors

Narendra Modi and Alexander Stubb held wide-ranging talks in New Delhi on Thursday and witnessed the exchange of several agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The agreements cover areas such as environmental cooperation, migration and mobility partnership, and collaboration in statistics.

During the meeting, both leaders discussed ways to deepen India–Finland ties across a wide spectrum of sectors. They also exchanged views on key regional and global issues and reaffirmed their commitment to working together in multilateral forums to address global challenges.

In a joint statement after the talks, Prime Minister Modi said the world is currently experiencing a period of instability and uncertainty, with ongoing conflicts in regions such as Ukraine and West Asia. He emphasized that in such a global environment, relations between India and Europe are entering what he described as a “golden era.”

Mr. Modi noted that stronger cooperation between India and European nations is contributing to global stability, development, and shared prosperity. He added that India and Finland share the view that military conflict alone cannot resolve disputes and stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy.

Referring to global conflicts, the Prime Minister said both countries support all efforts aimed at bringing an early end to the crises in Ukraine and West Asia. He also highlighted the recently concluded India–European Union Free Trade Agreement, signed earlier in 2026, stating that the pact would further enhance trade, investment, and technological cooperation between India and Finland.

President Stubb arrived in New Delhi yesterday on a four-day state visit to India. He was received at the airport by Kirti Vardhan Singh. This marks his first visit to India since assuming office as President of Finland.

During his visit, President Stubb is scheduled to meet Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. C. P. Radhakrishnan will also call on the visiting leader.

Later today, President Stubb will attend the Raisina Dialogue 2026 in the national capital, where he will participate as the Chief Guest and deliver the keynote address at the 11th edition of the prominent global policy forum.
