India has firmly established itself as a major global electronics manufacturing hub and is now the world’s sixth-largest exporter of electronics, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said while inaugurating a new manufacturing facility of US-based company Jabil at Ranjangaon MIDC in Pune.
Addressing the gathering, Vaishnaw highlighted the remarkable transformation of India’s electronics sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the country has evolved into a preferred destination for global electronics manufacturing, with products made in India being exported to markets across the world.
The minister emphasized that India’s ambitions extend far beyond its current achievements. He stated that the country aims to become the world’s second-largest electronics exporter in the coming years, driven by strong policy support, growing investments, and expanding manufacturing capabilities.
Vaishnaw also underscored India’s rapid progress in the semiconductor sector. He revealed that two semiconductor manufacturing plants are currently under development in the country, and this number is expected to increase to four by the end of the year. The expansion is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain and reduce dependence on imports.
In a significant announcement, the minister said plans are underway to begin manufacturing mechanical precision parts in Pune. The initiative is expected to reinforce the electronics and semiconductor supply chain ecosystem, creating new opportunities for industrial growth and employment in the region.
The Union Minister credited Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for implementing land reforms and policy measures that have helped attract large-scale investments to the state. According to Vaishnaw, Maharashtra has emerged as a key destination for technology and manufacturing projects due to its investor-friendly environment and robust infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, Fadnavis highlighted Maharashtra’s leadership in digital infrastructure development. He noted that nearly 60 percent of India’s data centre capacity is currently located in the state, reinforcing its position as the country’s leading technology and infrastructure investment destination.
The Chief Minister also expressed confidence in the success of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, commonly known as the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. He said the project would play a transformative role in creating one of India’s largest economic corridors, boosting connectivity, trade, and industrial development.
Fadnavis further highlighted the strategic importance of the upcoming Vadhvan Port project. He said the port is expected to rank among the world’s ten largest ports and will significantly enhance transportation networks, export-import operations, and industrial growth across the region.
The inauguration of Jabil’s new facility marks another milestone in India’s manufacturing journey, reflecting growing global confidence in the country’s capabilities. With expanding electronics production, semiconductor investments, world-class infrastructure projects, and a strong export focus, India is positioning itself as a leading player in the global technology and manufacturing landscape.
