India Condemns Fujairah Attack: PM Modi Calls for Peace and Maritime Security in Strait of Hormuz

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday strongly condemned the recent attack in the United Arab Emirates that left three Indian nationals injured, underscoring the urgent need for peace and stability in the volatile West Asian region.

The incident occurred in the oil hub of Fujairah, where a drone strike triggered a fire at a major industrial facility. The UAE has accused Iran of being behind the attack, though Tehran has issued statements distancing itself from direct involvement.

In a post on X, Modi denounced the targeting of civilians and infrastructure, calling such actions “unacceptable.” He emphasized that India stands in firm solidarity with the UAE and reiterated New Delhi’s commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.

Highlighting broader geopolitical concerns, Modi stressed the importance of ensuring safe and unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz—a critical artery for global oil shipments. Any disruption in this region, he noted, has far-reaching consequences for global energy security and economic stability.

Meanwhile, Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, issued a cautious response, warning both the United States and the UAE against being drawn into further conflict. While neither confirming nor denying Iran’s role, he suggested that escalating tensions could worsen the regional situation. Iranian state media also quoted an unnamed military official claiming that Tehran had “no plan” to target the UAE or its oil infrastructure, instead attributing the incident to broader geopolitical maneuvers.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) echoed the Prime Minister’s stance, calling the attack “unacceptable” and urging an immediate halt to hostilities targeting civilians. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that India continues to advocate for dialogue as the primary means to restore peace and stability across West Asia.

Reiterating its long-standing position, India also called for adherence to international law to ensure free and secure maritime trade through the Strait of Hormuz. With a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passing through this narrow waterway, maintaining its security remains crucial not just for regional stability but for the global economy.

As tensions simmer in the Gulf, India’s response reflects a balanced approach—firmly condemning violence while advocating diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation in an already fragile region.
