India, Bangladesh Reaffirm Commitment to Peace and Security Along Border at 57th DG-Level Conference

India and Bangladesh have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace, tranquility, and stability along the shared international border following the successful conclusion of the 57th Director General-Level Border Coordination Conference between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

The four-day conference was held at the BSF Headquarters in New Delhi from June 8 to June 11 and served as an important platform for both sides to review the prevailing border situation and discuss a range of issues related to border security and management.

The Indian delegation was led by BSF Director General Praveen Kumar, while the Bangladesh delegation was headed by Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh, Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui. Senior officials from both border guarding forces participated in the discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation and addressing challenges along the India-Bangladesh border.

During the conference, the two sides agreed to further strengthen coordinated border patrols, enhance surveillance measures, improve real-time information sharing, and intensify joint efforts to combat trans-border criminal networks. The discussions focused on ensuring effective border management while fostering mutual trust and cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

Officials emphasized the importance of coordinated action in tackling cross-border crimes, including smuggling and other illegal activities, while ensuring the security and well-being of people residing in border areas. The conference also provided an opportunity to review existing mechanisms of cooperation and identify new areas for collaboration.

The meeting concluded with the signing of the Joint Record of Discussions, reflecting the consensus reached on various matters of mutual interest. Both delegations expressed confidence that the decisions and understandings achieved during the conference would further strengthen bilateral cooperation and contribute significantly to effective border management and the friendly relations between India and Bangladesh.

The two countries also agreed to continue their engagement through regular institutional mechanisms. The next Director General-Level Border Coordination Conference is proposed to be held in Dhaka at a mutually convenient time in November 2026.

The outcome of the conference underscores the continued commitment of India and Bangladesh to maintaining a peaceful and secure border, while deepening cooperation in addressing shared security challenges and promoting regional stability.
