The Indian Embassy in Tehran on Wednesday issued a fresh travel advisory urging Indian citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran until further notice, citing the continuing security concerns in the region despite recent signs of improvement in the overall situation.
The advisory comes in the backdrop of significant diplomatic developments, including a peace agreement endorsed by Iran and the United States that aims to bring an end to the three-month-long conflict that has affected stability across the Middle East.
In its statement, the Embassy of India said it has been closely monitoring the security environment in Iran and acknowledged recent positive developments. However, it emphasized that the situation remains sensitive and warrants caution from Indian nationals.
“The Embassy of India, Tehran, has been closely monitoring the prevailing security situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran. In light of recent positive developments and the improvement in the overall situation, the Embassy wishes to issue the following revised advisory for Indian nationals contemplating travel to Iran,” the embassy said.
While recognizing improvements in conditions, the mission reiterated its recommendation that Indian citizens postpone non-essential visits to the country. “Notwithstanding the recent improvements, Indian nationals are advised to continue to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran until further notice,” the advisory stated.
The embassy also issued important guidelines for Indians currently residing in Iran or planning essential travel to the country. Citizens have been advised to remain vigilant, exercise caution, strictly follow instructions issued by local authorities, and stay informed through official communication channels.
To facilitate assistance in case of emergencies, the embassy urged all Indian nationals in Iran, as well as those arriving in the country, to register their details at the earliest opportunity.
“All Indian nationals currently in Iran, and those arriving in Iran, are strongly advised to register their particulars with the Embassy of India, Tehran, at the earliest opportunity. They are also advised to regularly monitor the Embassy’s official website and social media platforms for updates and any further advisories that may be issued,” the statement added.
The travel advisory assumes significance as diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington appear to be gaining momentum. Iran and the United States have reportedly agreed on a 14-point framework designed to end hostilities in the region. Representatives from both countries recently met in Switzerland to advance discussions and work toward implementing the proposal.
Commenting on the progress, US Vice President JD Vance expressed optimism about the prospects of a lasting settlement. He described the recent negotiations as an important step toward a comprehensive agreement that could formally conclude the conflict that began in late February.
“The final deal is the house. We set the foundation. We haven't built the house, but we've laid a successful foundation to get to a good place for the American people,” Vance told reporters.
Despite the diplomatic breakthrough and improving conditions, Indian authorities remain cautious, underscoring the need for travellers to stay alert until the regional security environment stabilizes further. The embassy's latest advisory reflects New Delhi's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of Indian nationals abroad while closely monitoring developments in the Middle East.
