The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather advisory warning of extreme conditions across multiple regions of the country over the next two days, with heatwave conditions set to intensify in northern and central parts, while the northeastern states brace for heavy to very heavy rainfall.
According to the IMD, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and the Vidarbha region. Temperatures in these areas are expected to soar significantly above normal levels, posing health risks, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and children.
Residents in these regions have been advised to take precautions, including staying hydrated, avoiding direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours, and limiting outdoor activities. Authorities are also on alert to manage potential power and water supply challenges due to increased demand.
In contrast, hot and humid weather conditions are forecast over coastal and eastern regions, including Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Gujarat, Kerala, Mahe, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. These areas are likely to experience high humidity levels, making conditions uncomfortable and increasing the risk of heat stress.
Meanwhile, the northeastern states are expected to witness intense rainfall activity. The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, raising concerns about flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas. Additionally, heavy rainfall is likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, as well as Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Local administrations in these regions have been urged to remain vigilant, with disaster response teams on standby to handle any emergencies arising from the adverse weather conditions.
