A 24-year-old woman from Nagpur, who is married to an Indian Air Force officer, has accused three men of rape, blackmail, forced religious conversion and coercion into marriage. Based on her complaint, police have arrested two accused while launching a manhunt for a third suspect, a cleric from Madhya Pradesh.
The case was registered at the Sonegaon Police Station in Nagpur. The arrested accused have been identified as Ayyaz Taj Madare, a resident of Kalmeshwar, and Amin Sheikh. The third accused, identified as Hazrat Maulana from Tamia in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district, remains absconding. A police team has been dispatched to Tamia to trace and apprehend him.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Singa Reddy Rushikesh said on Tuesday that the complainant alleged she was manipulated into a relationship, extorted and subjected to pressure for religious conversion.
According to police, the woman works in property dealing while her husband, an Indian Air Force officer, is posted outside Nagpur. Investigators said the woman and the principal accused had known each other since childhood, having belonged to the same village.
The complainant alleged that after her marriage in 2024, she reconnected with the accused through Instagram. In February 2025, he allegedly contacted her regarding a property transaction and invited her to a hotel in Nagpur for a meeting.
The woman claimed that during the meeting, the accused mixed an intoxicating substance into her juice. She alleged that she lost consciousness and was raped, while videos and photographs of the incident were secretly recorded. According to her complaint, these recordings were subsequently used to blackmail and threaten her.
Police Inspector Rahul Tasare of Sonegaon Police Station said the woman formally lodged her complaint on June 13, following which an FIR was registered. Acting swiftly, police arrested two of the accused and initiated efforts to locate the third suspect.
Investigators have booked the accused under various provisions related to rape, criminal intimidation, extortion and religious coercion. Police have also invoked sections of the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act.
A significant aspect of the case relates to allegations of forced religious conversion. The complainant told police that she was taken to Tamia in Madhya Pradesh, where a cleric allegedly made her recite the Kalma and conducted a Nikah ceremony according to Muslim customs without her consent.
The woman further alleged that she was pressured to marry the main accused against her will and was subjected to continuous coercion. Police have stated that all claims relating to the alleged conversion and marriage ceremony are being thoroughly investigated.
The complainant has reportedly provided investigators with a video that she claims shows rituals resembling black magic being performed on her by the main accused. Authorities have seized mobile phones and other digital devices linked to the case and sent them for forensic examination.
Police are also attempting to recover and verify videos that are reportedly circulating and may be connected to the allegations.
The woman has additionally alleged that she was served beef following the purported conversion and marriage ceremony. Investigators are examining this claim along with other events that allegedly took place during her stay in Tamia.
Officials have not yet confirmed any of the allegations and have stressed that all aspects of the complaint are being verified through evidence collection and witness statements.
Police have indicated that the investigation remains at a preliminary stage and that the involvement of additional individuals cannot be ruled out.
“After receiving the complaint, we immediately took the matter seriously, registered an FIR and arrested two accused. We have seized digital evidence from mobile phones and are examining it. Efforts are underway to recover and verify videos that are reportedly circulating. The investigation is still ongoing,” DCP Singa Reddy Rushikesh said.
Authorities have emphasized that the allegations are currently under investigation and that the guilt or innocence of the accused will be determined through the legal process.
