How Bharat Drone Shakti 2023 infusing vigour into civil and defence sectors

NEW DELHI: Bharat Drone Shakti 2023, a first-of-its-kind drone exhibition cum display was inaugurated by Raksha  Mantri  Rajnath Singh at  Air Force Station, Hindan in Ghaziabad on September 25, 2023. It has been jointly organised by Indian Air Force (IAF) and Drone Federation of India (DFI). The two-day event, which is being held on September 25 & 26, 2023, features over 75 drone start-ups from across the country, where the Indian drone industry will perform live aerial demonstrations.

The event aims to showcase the capabilities of the Indian drone industry and promote the use of drone technology in various sectors. The event features over 50 live aerial demonstrations, including survey drones, agricultural drones, firefighting drones, tactical surveillance drones, heavy-lift logistics drones and counter-drone solutions.


The event is an important step towards India's goal of becoming a global drone hub by 2030, highlighting the country's growing interest in drone technology across various sectors, including defence and civil applications.
Here, it is worth mentioning that drone technology has revolutionised the civil and defence sectors. The use of drones in India is seeing widespread growth in both military and civilian sectors. Emerging drone designs and capabilities in India have been driven by initiatives such as the Mehar Baba Swarm Drone Competition, which have sought to harness indigenous potential.

Mehar Baba’ Swarm Drone Competition by the Indian Air Force for Indian start-ups to develop a swarm drone based system to detect foreign objects on aircraft operating surfaces. The Indian Air Force is organizing one of its kind contests for the growing indigenous drone industry which is aimed at developing technology for a 'swarm drone based system to detect foreign objects on aircraft operating surfaces'. The core of the competition is to nurture and uplift the budding indigenous drone industry and find viable automated solution to foreign object detection at large
