The Central Government has informed the Rajya Sabha that the Dr. Ambedkar Scheme for Social Integration through Inter-Caste Marriages and the Dr. Ambedkar National Relief to the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Victims of Atrocities Scheme were merged with the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for the Implementation of the Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1955 and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, with effect from 31 March 2023, to avoid duplication in the implementation of schemes.
This information was provided by the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Ramdas Athawale, in a written reply to Shri Raghav Chadha in the Rajya Sabha today.
The Minister submitted that under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for the Implementation of the Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1955 and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, Central assistance is provided to State Governments and Union Territory Administrations adding that the scheme is implemented by the respective State Governments/UT Administrations, and the responsibility for its effective implementation rests with them.
The Dr. Ambedkar Foundation continued to process and provide financial assistance in pending cases pertaining to the Dr. Ambedkar Scheme for Social Integration through Inter-Caste Marriages that arose prior to the merger. Accordingly, financial assistance amounting to ₹10.66 crore has been released to 457 beneficiaries.
The year-wise details show that 68 beneficiaries received financial assistance during 2023-24, 11 beneficiaries during 2024-25 and 378 beneficiaries during 2025-26, taking the total number of beneficiaries to 457 during the three-year period.
