GHMC Issues Safety Guidelines Ahead of Expected Heavy Rainfall in Hyderabad

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has released a set of safety guidelines for the public in anticipation of heavy rainfall predicted between September 4 and 9. The civic body has urged residents to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety during this period of expected severe weather.

Key Guidelines for Public Safety:

  1. Stay Indoors: The GHMC has strongly advised residents to remain indoors, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall. The public is encouraged to avoid venturing outside unless absolutely necessary.

  2. Avoid Shelter Under Trees: Residents have been cautioned against taking shelter under trees during the rain. This precaution is vital to avoid the risk of injury from falling branches or trees that could be uprooted by strong winds.

  3. Avoid Waterlogged Areas: The public has been advised to steer clear of areas prone to waterlogging. Walking or driving through flooded streets can be dangerous due to the risk of being swept away by swift currents or encountering hidden hazards like open manholes.

  4. Ensure Proper Drainage: The GHMC has emphasized the importance of maintaining proper drainage around homes. Residents are encouraged to ensure that their drains are clear of debris to prevent water from accumulating and causing flooding.

  5. Keep Children Away from Open Drains: The public has been specifically warned to keep children away from open drains and manholes. These areas are particularly hazardous during heavy rains, as they can become rapidly inundated, posing a significant risk to anyone nearby.

Emergency Response and Contacts:

The GHMC has assured the public that its emergency teams will be on high alert throughout this period to respond to any incidents or emergencies. The civic body is prepared to tackle issues such as waterlogging, fallen trees, and other weather-related problems.

In case of emergencies, residents can contact the GHMC control room at 040-21111111 or the Disaster Response Force (DRF) at 9000113667 for immediate assistance.

The GHMC has urged all residents to adhere to these guidelines and to prioritize their safety during the upcoming days of heavy rainfall. By taking these precautions, the public can help minimize risks and ensure the well-being of themselves and their families during this challenging weather period.
