General Upendra Dwivedi Bids Farewell as Army Chief, Hands Over Command to General Dhiraj Seth

The Indian Army witnessed a significant leadership transition on Tuesday as outgoing Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi formally relinquished the appointment of the Chief of Army Staff, reflecting on more than four decades of dedicated service to the nation. In his farewell address, General Dwivedi underscored that the Indian Army's true strength lies not in any single individual but in the collective faith and commitment of its soldiers, commanders, veterans, families, and the people of India.

Addressing military personnel and officials in New Delhi, General Dwivedi described serving in the Indian Army as the greatest privilege of his life. He said that the institution's enduring strength has always been built upon discipline, sacrifice, and the unwavering trust of those who wear the uniform, as well as the citizens they serve.

Indian Army Maintained High Operational Readiness

Reflecting on his tenure, General Dwivedi said the Indian Army had consistently maintained preparedness, operational balance, and vigilance across all fronts over the past two years. He noted that the force successfully executed its responsibilities with clearly defined objectives, professionalism, and a strong sense of accountability in matters related to national security.

He highlighted that the Army remained fully committed to safeguarding the country's territorial integrity while adapting to evolving security challenges. According to him, operational preparedness and strategic planning continued to remain at the core of the Army's functioning throughout his tenure.

Stronger Tri-Service Coordination

General Dwivedi also emphasized the growing synergy among the three armed forces—the Army, Navy, and Air Force. He said that enhanced coordination, mutual trust, and a shared strategic vision had significantly strengthened India's overall defence capabilities.

He observed that jointness among the services has become increasingly important in addressing modern security challenges, enabling the armed forces to function as an integrated and cohesive fighting force.

Leadership Passes to General Dhiraj Seth

Handing over command to General Dhiraj Seth, General Dwivedi expressed complete confidence in his successor's leadership. He described General Seth as a seasoned soldier and an accomplished military leader capable of guiding the Indian Army into its next phase of growth and modernization.

General Dwivedi said he was confident that under General Seth's command, the Army would continue to uphold its glorious traditions while reaching new milestones through professionalism, dedication, and unwavering resolve.

Tribute at National War Memorial

As part of his farewell programme, General Dwivedi paid homage to the nation's fallen heroes by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. The solemn ceremony symbolized the Army's enduring respect for the sacrifices made by generations of soldiers in service of the nation.

The leadership transition marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Indian Army, with General Dhiraj Seth assuming command at a time when India's security environment continues to evolve. The outgoing Army Chief's remarks reinforced the institution's core values of unity, discipline, and collective service, while expressing confidence that the Army will continue to safeguard the nation's interests with professionalism and unwavering commitment.
