General Dhiraj Seth Assumes Charge as India's 31st Army Chief

General Dhiraj Seth on Tuesday assumed charge as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), succeeding General Upendra Dwivedi, who retired after serving the nation with distinction for more than four decades.

The change of command marks a significant transition in the leadership of the Indian Army, with General Seth bringing nearly 40 years of rich operational and strategic experience to the country's highest military appointment.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, Pune, General Seth was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986. Over the course of his illustrious military career, he has held several key command and staff appointments, playing a vital role in enhancing the Indian Army's operational readiness, capability development and institutional transformation.

General Seth has commanded an Armoured Regiment in the Desert Sector, an Armoured Brigade in the Western Theatre, and a Counter-Insurgency Force in Jammu and Kashmir, giving him extensive experience across diverse operational environments. His leadership in both conventional and counter-insurgency operations has earned him recognition within the armed forces.
