Violence has once again struck Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district, this time claiming the life of a member of the Ansar paramilitary force. Bajendra Biswas, 42, an Ansar member deployed for security at a garment factory in Bhaluka, was shot dead on duty, allegedly by a fellow Ansar member.
According to police and local accounts, the incident occurred while Biswas and his colleague, Noman Mia, 22, were sitting together inside the factory premises. A shotgun in Noman’s possession reportedly discharged, striking Biswas in the left thigh. The injury caused severe bleeding and proved fatal.
Biswas was rushed to the Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. He was the son of Pobitra Biswas and hailed from Kadirpur village in Sylhet Sadar.
Officer-in-Charge Zahidul Islam of Bhaluka Model Police Station confirmed that police responded promptly, arresting the alleged shooter, Noman Mia. Noman is the son of Lutfur Rahman and a resident of Baluturi Bazar in Sunamganj's Taherpur area.
The victim’s body has been sent to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police stated that legal proceedings are underway and investigators are examining whether the shooting was purely accidental or if other factors played a role. Officials have assured a serious investigation and urged witnesses to cooperate.
This tragic incident gains a grim significance as it marks the third reported killing of a Hindu man in Bangladesh within ten days.
Earlier, Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death in an incident that sparked violence.
Just three days ago, another Hindu man, Amrit Mandal, was shot dead in Dhaka over allegations of extortion.
These events have heightened concerns among minority communities, with reports of murders and property attacks creating an atmosphere of fear and vulnerability.
The Ansar is a respected paramilitary force in Bangladesh, commonly deployed for security at factories, banks, elections, and government installations. Personnel may be armed, especially in sensitive locations. Approximately 20 Ansar members were on duty at the Bhaluka factory at the time of the shooting, underscoring the routine nature of such deployments.
While the investigation into Bajendra Biswas’s death continues to determine its exact circumstances, the pattern of recent violence against Hindu individuals demands urgent attention.
