Ganga Water Level Rises in Bihar, Flood Threat Mounts in Several Districts

Bihar is facing a growing flood threat as the water level of the Ganga continues to rise in Patna and several other districts, raising concerns about inundation in new areas.

The state Disaster Management Department has issued an alert following the rapid rise in the river’s water level. According to the department, the Ganga is expected to cross the Highest Flood Level (HFL) at Gandhi Ghat in Patna tonight, while the river is likely to breach the HFL at Hathidah in Mokama by tomorrow afternoon.

The situation has prompted authorities to advise residents living along the riverbanks and in low-lying areas to remain vigilant. People in Bhojpur, Patna, Saran, Vaishali, Nalanda, Begusarai, Lakhisarai and Jehanabad have been specifically urged to exercise caution as the rising water level could increase the risk of flooding in vulnerable areas.

Residents have been advised to avoid going near rivers and ghats and to stay away from waterlogged locations. Authorities have also asked people to avoid taking unnecessary risks and closely follow advisories and instructions issued by the local administration.

The rising Ganga level could pose challenges for communities in low-lying areas, particularly if the river continues to rise and crosses critical flood thresholds. Local authorities are expected to keep a close watch on the situation and take necessary precautionary measures depending on the water level and ground conditions.

The Disaster Management Department has urged residents to remain calm but prepared and to rely on official information rather than rumours or unverified reports. People have also been advised to cooperate with local authorities in case evacuation or other emergency measures become necessary.
